Why Are Those French Girls Obsessed with Chinese Aunties??

Crystal Huang GuideinChina 2019-03-29

Chinese dama ( dà mā aunt: affectionate term for an elderly woman ) is a kind of magical existence… Including my mother ha ha ha.

Every time I see her travel,

the photos she takes with her friends are posted among her moments.

Like this

Waving scarves and wearing sunglasses,

they stood with their hands outstretched, embracing the sky and nature.

Young people don't usually learn these amazing photo poses!

Maybe in our eyes, mothers pose old-fashioned ways.

But!

There were two French girls who didn't think that way at all!

In fact, they love Chinese dama so much that they went as far as creating a magazine specifically for Chinese dama.

The magazine name is called "迷妹" which means crazy fans.

These two girls are Elsa and Monique.

Originally from France, they’ve lived in Shanghai for many years.

What kind of fortune made them get acquainted with dama?

Chinese aunt's’ specialty - the square dance!

At first, Monique saw damas dancing and thought it was a great free exercise.

Later?

Join them, of course.

Enthusiastic aunt lent her a red fan.

This technique seems to have been practiced many times!

Damas can dance anywhere.

Elsa's obsession with damas goes back further.

She has been photographing Chinese damas for five years.

She thinks aunts in China are very brave to

match clothes with different colors and patterns.

She thought, "This is so cool!"

When Elsa and Monique found out about each other's love for Chinese dama in China, the two hit it off and spent four months creating their 迷妹" magazine.

From cover to content, it is totally "dama style".

Not fashionable, but quite down-to-earth!

Wearing colorful curling irons on the cover of a magazine and damas washing dishes are some of the things featured in the magazine.

The content also includes makeup tips and dressing tips.

Auntie voted "the most popular square dance" top10.

The whole magazine records the real life of damas from all perspectives and aims to restore the style of magazine printing from the 1980s and 1990s

A few pages have even been photocopied directly from pages of older magazines.

Hahaha, the magazine looks great!!

They think the sleeves are a good combination of practicality and fashion sense.

They just picked the fabric and made a lot of them.

Elsa said she took the sleeves out and asked damas to put them on for a photo shoot.

Some of the aunts said, "You don't have much variety or monotony in these sleeves," and "They don't look good."

But still, they put them on and took smiley photos.

"Aunts in China are really different."

They seem really happy.

Dancing, traveling, gossiping with sisters every day.

Life is as wonderful as if they didn’t need a husband!"

"We will be such funny aunts in the future," they shouted.

Even former French football legend Zinedine Zidane stopped by to admire the damas mahjong!!

For them, they spend the first half of their lives focusing on their families and have little energy and time for themselves.

And now, their wonderful second life has finally begun!!

My mom just retired this past July.

She has been traveling to so many places these last months to places like Yunnan and Harbin. So jealous of her.

May mothers forever be healthy and as energetic as these damas!
