The Opposite House’s Chinese fine dining restaurant Jing Yaa Tang is known for its atmosphere of sophistication, though every lunchtime, you can gorge yourself on unlimited dim sum for 148RMB per person (plus 15 percent). Go in a group so you can sample more of the menu without feeling too gluttonous. Midday-2.30pm daily.
3 ways to enjoy fine dining on a budget
Splashing out doesn't always have to burn the cash
Want luxe food at a not-so-luxe price point? Some of Beijing’s fanciest restaurants offer cracking deals and accessible options for those of us on more humble budgets.
Gorge on all-you-can-eat dim sum
The sushi mavens at Yotsuba fly in fresh fish daily from the suppliers of Tokyo’s famous Tsukiji market, to be served up as some of Beijing’s best sushi. Filling up on sushi can be a pricey challenge, but Yotsuba’s lunch deal, covering sushi, salad, appetizers and dessert for just 150RMB, is an affordable way of trying. Midday-2pm daily.
Eat luxury by the slice
Opera Bombana has a causal outpost offering affordable luxury by the slice. They may use the same 36-hour fermented dough that founder Umberto Bombana uses in his Michelin-starred restaurants, but Pizza View’s slices start at just 48RMB – you can eat more than 15 for the price of an Opera Bombana risotto.
