Thanksgiving feasts with all the trimmings

Next Thursday 22 November marks Thanksgiving, that American holiday filled with pies, parades and presidential pardons (of turkeys). For those of you wanting to stuff yourself on some turkey, but frankly can't be arsed cooking your own (who even owns an oven in Beijing?), there are plenty of restaurants out there who've done all the heavy lifting, and basting, for you – just make sure you book in advance.

However, for those of you who prefer gorging on a Thanksgiving feast at home (particularly for that inevitable post-meal nap), we've also collated a bunch of handy takeaway and delivery services.

Village Café

What is it? A Thanksgiving holiday meal featuring whole roast turkeys, honey hams, free-range chickens and all the classic Thanksgiving trimmings – creamy mashed potatoes, sausage and sage stuffing, roasted brussels sprouts, and apple, pecan and classic pumpkin pies. Create your own feast or choose from one of the special packages (New York or California) tailored to suit different-sized holiday gatherings. 

Price 138RMB per kg (whole turkey); 1,088RMB (New York package: whole roast turkey, three sides, cranberry sauce, gravy); 1,188RMB (California package: whole roast turkey, roast chicken, four sides, gravy, cranberry sauce, pie of choice).

Boxing Cat Brewery

What is it? A Thanksgiving buffet with plenty of food plus free-flow selected drinks. 

Price 350RMB per person. Children 12 and under are 100RMB each, while kids under five eat free.

Jing A

What is it? A Thanksgiving dinner menu featuring roast turkeys (whole, half and small portions), plus traditional sides like homemade chorizo stuffing, crispy brussels sprouts, sweet potato with marshmallows and more. And, of course, they're also serving up dessert in the form of their classic pumpkin pie in a jar. Their full barbecue menu will still be available, so feel free to toss in an order of ribs, mac 'n' cheese, or even a bone-in beef short rib (if that's not enough food for you). 

Price 150RMB (roast chicken for two people); 350RMB (honey-glazed turkey for 2-3 people); 900RMB (half-turkey for six people); 1,800RMB (whole 7kg turkey for 12 people).

Feast (Food by East)

What is it? A festive twist on Feast's usual buffet with plenty of turkey, fresh seafood, imported cheese and other favourites. Save room for dessert because there's also set to be a pie table dedicated to, you guessed it, pie. 

Price 348RMB (including free-flow soft drinks, beer and house wine); half-price for children aged 7-12; free for children under six.

Signature's

What is it? A Thanksgiving feast with live-cooking stations, glazed turkeys, stuffing, pies, homemade pastries and more. They're also going to have a live DJ playing music, plus free-flow wine, so expect plenty of festive (read: jolly) vibes.

Price 328RMB (includes soft drinks and house wine); 164RMB (children aged 7-12).

Nuo Hotel

What is it? A Thanksgiving lunch and dinner buffet at N'Joy that includes free-flow red and white wine, as well as beer. Nuo's Chinese restaurant Jia will also be offering a Thanksgiving-inspired set lunch and dinner that includes a five-course menu and one bottle of wine.

Home Plate

What is it? A full-blown American Thanksgiving buffet with whole smoked turkeys, a whole smoked hog as well as all the trimmings. They've got – brace yourselves – cornbread dressing, boozy cranberry sauce, pecan-crusted sweet potatoes, country green beans, whipped garlic mashed potatoes, smoked giblet gravy, tossed salad, bourbon cornbread pudding and free-flow wine, iced tea, Tsingtao beer and sodas. Phew.

Caravan

What is it? Caravan's four-course Mao'roccan Thanksgiving feast includes a harvest salad, smoked cranberry butter squash soup, a turkey platter (including sharmula turkey, smoked mac 'n' cheese, taro with za'atar and grilled greens) and carrot cake. 

Price 200RMB; 150RMB (advance bookings); kids under eat ten free. 100 percent of meal proceeds go to Maovember.

Swissôtel

What is it? A four-day Thanksgiving buffet from November 19 to 22. Café Swiss' buffet includes roasted turkey, festive desserts and traditional Swiss foods. During these four days there will also be a Thanksgiving Charity Bazaar at Swissôtel's second-floor gallery where they'll be selling off hotel equipment and handmade crafts made by staff.

Kerry's Kitchen

What is it? A buffet with roast turkey, stuffing, grilled Australian prime beef ribs, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes and gravy, log cakes and more. Keep the kids entertained by also sending them off to Adventure Zone, Kerry's indoor themed playground with slides and kid-friendly challenges.

The Local

What is it? A Thanksgiving dinner where diners can choose from either a turkey meal (containing 300g of turkey and individual helpings of each of the sides) or the vegetarian option (which serves all the same sides but replaces turkey with gnocchi).

Lily's American Diner

What is it? An all-American Thanksgiving dinner served at each of Lily's three locations from November 22 to 25. The dine-in meal includes salad or soup, turkey with all the sides (stuffing, mashed potato, sweet potato, mixed veg, cranberry sauce and gravy), and a choice of one dessert (pumpkin pie, apple pie or chocolate brownie).

What is it? A 'Thanksgiving To Go' menu available to order from Boxing Cat until November 18.

What is it? A takeaway turkey from Nuo Hotel's U'Deli, available from November 22 to December 25.

Home Plate

What is it? A classic Thanksgiving feast that can feed up to 10 people (or leave greedy smaller groups with leftovers). The full menu features a barbecued whole turkey (7 to 8kg pre-cooked weight) with smoked giblet gravy (1,300RMB), boozy cranberry sauce (88RMB), garlic mashed potatoes (78RMB), cornbread dressing (88RMB), pecan-crusted sweet potato casserole (98RMB), honey-glazed carrots (78RMB) and country green beans (58RMB).

Price Get the entire package for 1,688RMB or mix and match your own feast by ordering each dish à la carte.

What is it? Village Café's elaborate dine-in meal is also available for takeaway, including whole roast turkeys, honey hams, free-range chickens and all the classic Thanksgiving trimmings – creamy mashed potatoes, sausage and sage stuffing, roasted brussels sprouts, and apple, pecan and classic pumpkin pies.

Lily's American Diner

What is it? Whole-roasted turkeys imported from the US plus sides such as homemade stuffing, mashed potato, sweet potato, mixed veggies, cranberry sauce and gravy. Pumpkin and apple pies are also available.

Price 139RMB per kilogram of turkey; 30RMB per person for sides; pies 129RMB each. Deposits (50 percent of total) must be paid in cash before November 20.
