March 8 is International Women's Day, so what better excuse to celebrate the continued fight for women's rights and gender equality? Here's our pick of the week's events that honour the awesomeness of women in the city – bra burning optional.

Named after famous folk legend Mulan, Boxing Cat's Hua Mulan Brut IPA pours a distinct pink from the addition of black goji. This Women's History Month, in celebration of the countless triumphs of women around the world, Rumble in the Jumble is seizing the day with their Femme Festival market. Of course, you don't have to be a woman to join in the celebration, you just have to love and respect the amazing women in your life. Expect a wide array of vendors ranging from delicately hand-embroidered clothing to hot-as-hell hummus, from vintage clocks to man-made gemstones to cupcakes galore. Special features include customised pop-up poetry by Boriqua in Beijing and on-the-spot tattoos by Black Rabbit.
Republican Ladies and the Women of Dashilar

Head out with Beijing Postcards this weekend to learn more about the women of Dashilar who led the charge for change. When the six-year-old emperor Puyi abdicated in 1912, transition was upon Beijing. Suddenly the old matriarchal structures of society were no longer kept in place. At the top of society, Republican ladies would enjoy freedom and opportunity as never before. This walk and talk takes place in the old Beijing neighbourhood Dashilar. Sanlitun bar Red Dog gets in on the Women's Day action with a night casually dubbed 'Girls Power'. Details are currently a bit scant (so far all we know is DJ Half N Half will be leading the charge), but these cocktail pros definitely know how to put on a good time.
Nordic Film Festival: Framing Females

For this third edition of the annual Nordic Film Festival, the Danish Cultural Center teams up with the UCCA and Nordic embassies in Beijing to celebrate all things female. Framing Females showcases a multitude of female talent, featuring films made by women, films that highlight the struggle of being a woman, films that document the beauty of women, and so much more. Can the world be changed with just the legs of females? We say yes, and so too does this documentary suggest that athletes in Kenya and Ethiopia can too. Victories of hundreds of Kenyan and Ethiopian female athletes are beginning to transform the socio-economic landscape in two traditionally patriarchal countries. Can women really outrun traditional roles? Spanish director Javier Triana brings his award-winning documentary to Camera Stylo this Woman‘s Day with a screening and discussion afterwards. Captain Marvel

There is no coincidence that Captain Marvel is being released worldwide on International Women's Day on March 8. The sci-fi ass-whoopin' film will see new leading female superhero Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) become Captain Marvel to save Earth from an intergalactic war between two alien races.
International Women's Day Concert 2019

In celebration of International Women's Day, the Beijing Symphony Orchestra, led by Zheng Xiaoying, will perform a programme that includes overtures from Verdi, Weber and Bizet, as well as highlights from Chinese classical music.
