北京老外是北京人，上海老外才是老外？你们老外圈儿这么复杂的吗？

最近，英大在网上看到一个很有趣的帖子 ——
上海老外和北京老外，有啥区别？
网友的回答可以说是非常精辟有才华，英大实在忍不住想跟大家分享一下其中的重点：
上海的老外高冷范，北京的老外接地气。
上海的老外是老外，北京的老外是北京人。
上海的老外说英语，北京的老外说北京话。
上海把中国人变成老外，北京把老外变成中国人。
上海的老外觉得自己是时尚老外，北京的是土鳖老外。

I like to compare ‘Shanghai vs Beijing’ as ‘New York vs SF’ and ‘Moscow vs St.Petersburg’ - means “Chicky and $$$” vs “Hipster and Culture”, so it tends to attract expats of relevant style.
我喜欢把“上海vs北京”比作“纽约vs旧金山”和“莫斯科vs圣彼得堡”——这意味着“美女、金钱”vs“潮客、文化”，所以它倾向于吸引有相关风格的老外。
There’s a big difference between expats in Shanghai and Beijing: local integration.

Simply put, it’s a lot easier to survive as a completely unassimilated foreigner in Shanghai than it is Beijing.

老外的阶层划分
栖息地：（上海）古北等高大上场所
Habitat: Gubei, and other places miles from anything that could be considered an interesting part of the city
服装：西装领带
Camouflage: Suit and tie
特点：此类老外位于老外食物链的最顶端，他们被公司外派到中国，并携带了“豪华软件包”，其中包括住房补助，子女国际学校就读甚至个人司机。
The top of the expat food chain, these employees are generally brought over by their companies on generous expat packages, which can include housing, expensive international schooling for their kids and perks like a personal driver.

Habitat: French Concession walkup or a Beijing hutong
服装：中山装（仅限正式场合）
Camouflage: Traditional Mao suit, but only for formal occasions
特点：此类老外在的专业是中文或东亚文化，来中国是为了更好的语言环境。
The Language Enthusiast studied Mandarin or East Asian Studies in
college/grad school and arrives in China to soak up more of the language.

Habitat: multiple roommates above an inexpensive bar with Filipina waitresses
服装：工装裤和牛仔裤
Camouflage: Cargo shorts and carpenter jeans
特点：此类老外在中国极为常见，分为两种，一种是在国外找不到工作，所以来中国碰运气的；另一种是职业教师，来中国积累经验的。
Probably the most commonly-found foreigner in China, the Wandering Teacher comes in two distinct varieties: the no-jobs-at-home-might-as-well-teach-in China type and the career teacher gaining experience.
