Shanghai to Raise Minimum Wage on April 1st

2017-03-28 ShanghaiWOWeng

City People's Bureau has announced it will be raising Shanghai's minimum wage on April 1st of this year. They made no indication of what it would be raised to, but the current minimum wage is RMB2190.

The last time Shanghai raised minimum wage was the end of 2016, when it jumped up 51%  from RMB1450.

Many believe that minimum wage adjustment doesn’t affect them, because they are not part of that category. However, they are wrong. The minimum wage is related to all laborers due to its correlation with policies pertaining to sick leave, paid leave, probationary wages, etc.

Changes will also be made to other areas including raising Unemployment Insurance, Workplace Injury Insurance, Pensions, and Old Age allowance.

Medical insurance reimbursement will increase from 50% to 55%. Low Family Income subsidies will also be increased, and the government will increase the amount of subsidized vocational training. Lastly, farmers will receive insurance that will contribute to their pensions.
