F&B News Bites
Well it’s another edition of our F&B news bites. There’s never a dull moment in Shanghai’s bustling industry of feeding people and getting them drunk. Here are some of the latest intriguing stories on our radar…
Bordertown just opened on Weihai Lu, serving ‘Bordertown specialties from SoCal to South Texas.’ (aka tex-mex/cali-mex food).
Charlies’s at the the Jing’an Kerry center has closed for renovations, one of the biggest ‘renovations’ we’re told is that there will no longer be a Dos Locos inside. RIP. You can also hit their pop up cafe which is RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE RESTAURANT. They will have takeaway Americanos (RMB 15), espressos (RMB 15), lattes (RMB 20, cappuccinos (RMB 20) and mochas (RMB 25). If you can’t stand the thought of living without a Charlie’s for the next couple of months, worry not. You can visit their Changshu Lu and Super Brand Mall locations. Renovations will be completed by Christmas.
Also coming around Christmas time is Pie Society’s second location! It will be a 40 seat restaurant in Jing’an district; just a few doors down from The Shed.
Pure & Whole does a Vegan Buffet once every two weeks. It’s amazing. If you’re a vegan (or eat with vegans) you should check that out. The next one will be on November 11th so put it on your calendar.
Speaking of healthy buffets, Happy Buddha has a new one as well. It’s RMB 120 and includes ‘free flow sangria and tasty vegan delights.’ Goes down every Friday from 6-9 pm.
Light and Salt has a new restaurant called Backstage by Light & Salt, it’s nestled along East Nanjing Lu as part of the Jazz at Lincoln Centre complex. The 40 seat restaurant has a contemporary menu inspired by the Jazz Age of Old Shanghai. They sent us some photos of the venue and food and heyyyyyyy, looks fine to us. Here are those:
Daimon renovations are complete and they have changed officially from Daimon Bistro to Daimon Gastrolounge. While some menu items have stayed, including the awesome Chicken and Waffle, there are a lot of new dishes. Looks great, tastes great, great drinks. Go.
EV has opened on Wuding Lu, taking the old Enoterra space. It’s a small eats and wine bar that should fit in quite perfectly along that little strip. It’s being run by the Popolo group responsible for Bar Centrale, Gemma and our new favorite Italian grocery, Alimentari.
Finaly, a little birdie told us the sad news that Blackbird on Wulumuqi Lu has flown the coop following earlier closures of their neighbors Glo London, Shanghai Brewery and Coffee Academics. Incidentally, did you know Coffee Academics has a location in Plaza 66? Get there if you have been missing their specialty coffee.
