Guide of Yongkang Road Ahead of Demolition Plan
Among the many streets in Shanghai, Yongkang Road has been popular for over a decade.
However, despite the changes at Yongkang Road due to several shop relocations and closures under the government’s demolition plan, we were happy to find some new shops when we visited.
Many good stores await you, from a new outlet by Shanghai's popular brunch spot to a bakery that sells out by 5 pm.
It was initially called Route Remi, known as a "foreign alley" among many old Shanghainese.
At the beginning of the 21st century, it became an open-air vegetable market, and after 2009, it became a bar street.
In its heyday, there were more than 70 bars and restaurants here, but the noise resulted in several complaints from residents nearby.
In 2016, all non-standard bars on Yongkang Road were banned and replaced by over 30 trendy shops.
However, due to government planning, some small shops have already closed. Before some others got closed, we decided to pay a visit again.
This place is famous for its delicious tiramisu.
It's a pity that this store is about to close due to the planned demolition work. Do visit before it’s too late.
