Satoyama Garden is one of the venues of the 2017 National Urban Greenery Fair, and after the fair, the "Satoyama Garden Festival" is held every spring and autumn, where citizens can experience nature up close. The project is located in a hilly area north of Yokohama city, adjacent to Yokohama Zoological Park Zoorasia, covering an area of about 20 hectares. Using the fallow fields in Satoyama as the project land, we hope to restore the vitality of the land. The seedlings are also purchased from farmers in the city, which provides a boost to the revitalization of urban agriculture. Designed from a variety of angles, the public can enjoy the flowers while walking, and gain a healthy body while learning about nature.

The garden at the main entrance is the focus of the exhibition area. The slope at the entrance faces south and the light conditions are good, suitable for plant growth. The landscape design is full of bold, the scenery is fun to look down, the scenery is exciting to look up, and the panorama can be seen from the 9m high sky walking platform. In addition, there is a barrier-free garden road near the large flower bed, and wheelchair users can also feel the subtle color changes.
The "Satoyama Garden Festival" held in each spring and autumn has its own theme and concept. We choose plants according to the theme, conceive the color of flowers and the posture of plants and trees. The theme is based on the historical ceremonies of Yokohama and the natural scenes that meet the needs of the citizens.
The spring festival takes place from late March to early May, and plants are planted in the winter. Due to the frost, the rapid rise in temperature and the high temperature and humidity of spring, it is necessary to choose plant varieties with frost resistance and heat resistance. The autumn festival takes place from mid-September to mid-October and plants are planted during the
summer. In autumn, we also need to choose plants with heat resistance, and in order to resist typhoons, lodging resistance is also indispensable. In addition, there is also a certain emphasis on planting methods. Japan's climate is hot and humid, and insect pests often occur. Taking into account the ecological and biological environment of Satoyama, pesticides are not used in the removal of pests, and the problem is solved by killing or organic methods.

In order to improve the landscape effect in the short term, annual herbaceous flower seedlings are used. In order to add changes to the landscape and create landscape spots, persistent root herbs are also used. About 50,000 flowers are planted at one festival, which are supplied by farmers in Yokohama City. After the festival, the flowers that can still be used will be transplanted into public spaces in the city for recycling. Care is also taken in the use of horticultural varieties so as not to affect the surrounding plants.
Repairing fallow fields will eliminate some plants, but leaving the Satoyama alone also lead to a loss of plant diversity. Through maintenance management, people's concern for the natural environment is improved, and the communication between people is promoted by using flowers as a bridge. That's the beauty of nature. The fields that feed the stomach are now the gardens that feed the heart.
