青岛龙湖光年位于中德生态园内D1组团,为带状公园的体验区也是先期启动区,项目面积3.2万㎡。设计理念是“蔓·空间”,即惬意的生活场景,正如藤蔓般自由生长。 This Visitor Information and Exhibition Center, the first phase of the extensive Long-Lake Ecological Park, was designed and built with sensitivity as well as the commitment to the site’s environmental and ecological needs. The overall design intent was to create multiple pockets of spaces of differing sizes and magnitudes to provide vibrant and compelling experiences as visitors observe nature and easily comprehend the sustainable land-use initiatives employed on site. Thoughtful and thorough considerations were given to the site’s inherent conditions. These include a 17-meter grade difference in landform, its former use as farmland, presence of large water bodies, heavy seasonal rainfall, and the absence of native flora and fauna. The inventive design masterfully approached the challenging grade differences which kept the earthwork to a minimum and also installed an illustrative rainwater collection-filtration system aimed at restoring the site’s ecological balance. The project is an exemplary benchmark for resilient future urban developments that seek to restore balance to site ecology and create engaging visitor experiences with an emphasis on creative stormwater management.
This imaginative playground atop Yuecheng Kindergarten is a new outdoor “edu-tainment” area for an international kindergarten that encourages early childhood learning and appreciation of nature as well as history during play. Nestled within a Chinese courtyard complex, the rooftop playground is an exceptional example of ingenuity in landscape design. Covering the entire roof of the kindergarten’s newly constructed annex, the entire surface of this 43,800 square foot playground is cloaked in hues of earth tones derived from the pallet of colors that wrapped the eves of ancient Chinese buildings. The swirling lines-dominant motif of the playground and evocative of ancient Chinese cloud designs– “float” above the stately courtyard, further uniting both ancient and ultra-modern Chinese design philosophies.A continuous loop around the historic buildings serves as a tricycle track on the playground. Molds, bumps, and light wells strategically placed around the site further enhance the multi-dimensional tactile experience and also serve as a gathering space for an informal outdoor classroom. For the 400 children, however, it is the child-safe and comfortable surface on which they run, jump, fall, crawl, climb, roll and laugh, that really makes their day, and ours.
The Lenovo Tech Park is an urban renewal project that saw the transformation of a vacant corporate administration headquarters, built in the late 80s, to an open and optimized park with a contemporary streetscape in support of the establishment of the Beijing Silicon Valley’.The vision for this 10,000 square meter area was to fulfill two objectives. The first objective is to reorganize the circulation and setting to create a verdant and vibrant hub providing office workers therapeutic views of nature outside their windows as well as outdoor space to rest and be rejuvenated. The other is to break the enclosed perimeter wall to open up the green space to contribute to the streetscape improvement of the neighborhood. Pocket parks lined with cherry trees and custom-designed benches drenched with sunlight or shaded by the established trees were designed to appeal to a broad spectrum of people and draw them outdoors.Pedestrian circulation was enhanced with new brick-stone paving, while the streetscape was enlivened by varied lighting elements, water features, and two oversized word sculptures. The existing sidewalk with large established trees was widened by 3 meters, and continuous ground-to-lamppost lighting was added to enhance the high-tech, modernistic aesthetic. The final product opened to enthusiastic praise from both the client and the general public and is now a much-cherished green spot in this dense urban district.
This gentrification project explored and reinterpreted the value of historical and industrial relics, sensitively transformed two areas ( 7 ha. and 2225 sq.m) in the post-industrial steel plant into one integrated complex that proudly showcase remnants of its industrial past. One of the main design intentions for this project is preserving visual and cultural resources for present and future generations. The results were contemporary multi-functional amenities – museums, theaters, community event plazas, industrial history walking trails, training facilities for aspiring Olympic athletes, pocket gardens, public art showcase arena, and interactive water features – to drive the revitalization of the district’s the economy while imbuing it with a rich sense of its industrial, working-class history and culture while creating, multi-dimensional experiences for visitors, on a relatable human scale. In addition, office spaces and F&B outlets were carved out within the monolithic structures to incubate small-medium business entities and foster a community of vibrant entrepreneurship. An aspirational and innovative blending of landscape, architecture, and infrastructure transformed this contaminated site into a verdant urban landscape, proving the compatibility of design excellence, high standards, and strong environmental practices.
