North Capital Mix and Match With Their New Pizza Burger

Burger Brief takes a look at some of the contestants in the Beijinger's 2017 Burger Cup. With the voting now open, we spoke to North Capital's head of marketing Paul Peng about what makes their burgers special.

Attached to a quiet hostel in the hutong southwest of Dongzhimen, North Capital serves a range of hostel-type beers, some local craft brews, as well as a dependable range of Western comfort food. However, many will probably know North Capital best for their interesting culinary mashups involving pizza and Chinese food, creating such morsels as pizza dumplings and pizza jianbing. In their most recent experiment, the team have opted to leave Chinese food out of the equation altogether, instead melding pizza with a burger. Below we discuss how such an idea came to fruition and what else we can expect from North Capital in the future.

Could you tell us about your signature burger, what makes it the best in Beijing?
We have a huge imagination at North Capital Bar and Grill when it comes to our hamburgers, mixing some of the finest and freshest ingredients to create our signature burgers. Some of our most popular burgers have been our Sharply Dressed Cheddar Skirt Burger or our Mozzarella Me Crazy Pizza Burger (pictured above), and don't forget our Elvis Burger. All of our burgers are served alongside our fresh-cut beer-battered Not Your Mum's Fries. For this year’s the Beijinger Burger Cup we created mini versions of our finest burgers, so that people had the chance to try a bite of every burger on the menu.

Where does your inspiration come from?
Our chefs Sheldon Wang and Scotty Norton's inspiration for all these really cool burgers and names comes from one of Norton's favorite television shows: Bob's Burgers.

What other burgers do you have on the menu?
We also have a pizza burger, the Chairman Mao burger, a Swiss mushroom burger, a Rodeo burger, a double pleasure burger, a breakfast burger, a Beijing street burger, and a hot chicks veggie burger.

What drink from your menu goes best with the burger?
