EAT: Oktoberfest, Catherine Ettlinger, and Pizza Fest is Here!
EAT: Your bite-sized guide to the best eats to be had in Beijing this week.
Oktoberfest at Paulaner Brauhaus
With temperatures falling these days, our appetites are turning to heartier fare and it doesn't get much heartier than German food. Indulge in said cuisine at Paulaner Brauhaus' annual Oktoberfest celebration at the Kempinski, which runs from Oct 12-28. During these few weeks, enjoy food, beer, and evenings filled with a blend of authentic Bavarian experiences from yodeling, sing-alongs, dance-alongs, and entertaining performances. A set menu (including free-flow beer) is available for dinner Mon-Sat, while there is a Sunday brunch on Oct 14, 21, and 28. I went along to the Sunday brunch last year and I can honestly say that it makes for both a delicious and entertaining day out. Tickets can be purchased via Kempinski's WeChat here (or scan the QR code on the poster above).
Enjoy L'Apéro at Bistrot B
For as long as the good weather does hold out, then your best bet for al fresco evenings may be to head to the courtyard at Bistrot B for their new L’Apéro deal. For RMB 350 per person, enjoy three hours of free-flow drinks alongside canapés and charcuterie made in-house by chef Jarrod Verbiak (Chef Jarrod’s pâté, in particular, is exceptional – in September he won the first China Edition Champion of Pâté en Croûte Competition in China held in Shanghai). Drinks include four cocktails, including French 75 and Pastis Framboise, and four wines.
French home cooking with Catherine Ettlinger at F Bistronome
From Oct 10-13, experience a bit of French home cooking at F Bistronome as "Bonne Maman" Catherine Ettlinger takes over the kitchen. Ettlinger is a passionate cook and in 2000 she opened Le Clos St. Pierre with her husband, chef Daniel Ettlinger, which was awarded a Michelin star soon after in 2003. She is related to Jean Rougié, son of the creator of one of the world's leading foie gras brands, so it is fair to say that food runs in her blood! Call F Bistronome on 8595 9597 for more information and to reserve.
Also, if you're looking for the best range of pizza this side of, well, China, don't forget that tickets are now on sale for our 2018 Beijing Pizza Festival, which takes place this weekend (Oct 13-14) from 11am-8pm. Early bird ticket buyers will receive a complimentary vintage bandana, while group ticket buyers (three tickets and up) will receive a free picnic blanket. Tickets are RMB 20 for early birds or RMB 30 on the door and can be purchased by scanning/extracting the QR code below. The weather is shaping up to great (think mid-20s degrees Centigrade and much less windy than today) so we can't wait to see you all there!
