Tuesday, Nov 20
This talk and
workshop organized by BOOKU'Msia, an "architects initiated, non-profit
library committed to the exchange of cultural knowledge within a
multidisciplinary community," meet to discuss the book Invisible City by
Cuba-born, Italian-raised author and journalist Italo Calvino. A strong
contender for the Nobel Prize for Literature, Calvino was the
most-translated contemporary Italian writer at the time of his death.

Wednesday, Nov 21
Certainly not the
soberest event on this week's list, abstain from drinking and take part
in Maovember's fifth annual pub quiz all in the name of charity. The
optional RMB 100 entry fee to the quiz, presented in English and
Chinese, includes two pitchers of Carlsberg (give those to your drinking
buddy) and goes to this year's chosen charity: The Bread of Life. There
will also be a charity auction and other drinks deals. The action
starts at 9pm but the organizers suggest you get there early to bag a
seat.

Thursday marks America's holiday of thanks, which means feasting on turkey till you drop but not before you have one more piece of pumpkin pie to make sure that yes, you certainly are more full than you've ever been before. To help you reach that stuffed bliss, venues across town have prepared a plethora of deals and meals to knock you into next week. Tap through to see just about every Thanksgiving happening in the city.
Friday, Nov 23
SLab hold this
twice-weekly craft session free for anyone to attend and in aid of
preparing items to sell at holiday markets around Beijing, with all
donations going to the Migrant Children's Foundation. Drop in on either
Wednesday or Friday mornings to awaken your inner artist, with all
materials and instructions provided by the SLab team.

Saturday, Nov 24
The China Academy
for Fine Arts (CAFA) holds their latest exhibition and the ninth edition
of Start of a Long Journey, a collection of significant works by
graduates of key academies in China. Planned by Xu Bing, the exhibition
is also a chance for the academic institution to celebrate its 100th
anniversary and for visitors to brush up on up and coming artists
they're likely to see much more of in the coming years.

Sunday, Nov 25
What could be a
better way than spending Sunday learning how to make your own tofu – one
of the world's most magical foods? Join The Hutong's chefs as they
guide you through everything you need to know about making homemade
tofu, from soaking to pureeing, cooking to draining, and pouring to
pressing. Attendees will get a steaming basket and a cheesecloth to take
home so that you can immediately start making your own tofu.
