What's Up in Beer: GLB's New Digs, Pebbles' Anniversary Party

Kyle M. theBeijinger 2020-08-18

What's Up in Beer is our weekly rubdown of all things ale and suds. Lather yourself in the latest beery news, gossip, and openings all the while forgetting what exactly it was that you were meant to be doing. Don't worry, beer can fix that too.

GLB's New Lido Digs

Popular craft suds makers Great Leap Brewing opened their hotly anticipated new Lido location yesterday (Dec 21). It boasts 30 taps and seating for 150 patrons. Their kitchen also serves GLB's famous pizzas, burgers and other fare like their Reuben sandwich. Read more about it here.

Jing-A's New One Hop Policy Pale Ale

Jing-A will add two beers at its Xingfucun taproom this weekend. They describe both as "fresh and very hoppy." One is a new entry cheekily titled The One Hop Policy. These New England-style pale ales are hazy, pale and low in bitterness. The key ingredient: their Motueka hops from New Zealand. Patrons will notice a honeydew melon flavor along with squeezed lime notes and a floral finish. Jing-A is also adding their Death By Mango IPA to the menu, which is another hoppy ale that lives up to its name with its fruity flavor.

Pebbles Courtyard x Slow Boat 9th Anniversary Party

Pebbles Courtyard is turning nine years old on Saturday, Dec 22 and the popular Wudaoying Mexican restaurant will celebrate with all day drink specials. Highlights include RMB 10 off Slow Boat draft beers (including Micheladas and Cheladas), and RMB 20 off margaritas. You can pair those brews with Roasted Al Pastor Tacos, available from 3pm onward, for a more than reasonable RMB 20.

Arrow Factory's Christmas Eve and Day Specials

Arrow Factory are putting out two special festive menus. First up: a countdown to Christmas menu available Dec 21-24, 6pm-late. From it you can choose the RMB 98 Single All the Way trueben turkey sanwich, or a Plitter Platter of Tiny Meat which defies its name with a mountain of Stuff'd sausages, smoke brisket, pork lion with sage and apple pork meat, and more for RMB 498 (big enough for a group of four, one day advance booking required).

Then, on the big day, they'll serve their Traditional English Turkey Christmas Day Meal. Costing RMB 198 per person, it's comprised of American free-range roast turkey with roast potatoes, roast parsnips, Brussels sprouts, suasages wrapped in bacon, sage and onion stuffing, cranberry sauce, bread and gravy.

The Great Outdoors' Christmas Parties

Fangjia hutong bar and restaurant The Great Outdoors (TGO) will host Christmas parties on Dec 21 and 23. The fun kicks off at 8pm on both days, and an ugly Christmas sweater contest will be held with prizes like a Brugse Zot Blond (750ml) and Brugse Zot Dubbel (750ml) gift set, bottles of Orchard Pig Cider, TGO beer and burger combo coupons, and more up for grabs.

Slow Boat x Side Street: Weekly RuPaul Drag Race Viewing Party

Slow Boat and ever-popular Jiaodaokou bar and grill Side Street are teaming up weekly for the RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars viewing party. The viewing starts every Tuesday at 8.30pm with guest queens Miss Hymn and Siberia of Beijing's Haus of Lily as MCs.
