EAT: Your bite-sized guide to the best eats to be had in Beijing this week.
Hyatt Regency Beijing Wangjing's ‘Journey of Taste’ series at Market Café is making a comeback with its first stop in India. Joining hands with Chef Sanjeev from Punjabi Restaurant, Chef Rabiul, the hotel's Indian Chef, will bring food lovers a selection of authentic Indian delicacies, including pani puri (pictured above), kutti mirch ka murgh (roasted chicken with Indian spice rub), gosht zimikand ka chaap (braised lamb with yam and yogurt gravy), traditional Indian tandoori kebabs, kewda akhrot vegan kulfi (green cardamom, pandan cream, vegan oat milk ice cream), and more. We tried a selection of the dishes last week and we can honestly say it was some of the best Indian cooking we've had in Beijing for a while (plus it's great to see hotels collaborating with standalone restaurants like Punjabi). The taste of India dishes will be available at Market Café as part of their buffet service every day from 11.30am-2.30pm (RMB 310 per person, RMB 468 per person on Sunday) and 5.30-9.30pm (RMB 410 per person), Mar 26-Apr 2.
Moka Bros has teamed up with plant-based meat brand Zrou and blogger Wayne from popular WeChat subscription and video account 造洋饭书 to create a pop-up featuring four limited-edition vegetarian and vegan dishes. The dishes are: Thai lettuce cups, a twist on the Thai dish larb moo featuring Zrou and crispy black rice; spicy chili con Zrou; a Zrou meatball sub; and a Zrou quinoa stir fry, packed with healthy ingredients like kale, red beans, and cashew nuts. The dishes are available at all Moka Bros locations until Apr 20.
In the latest in Hulu's series of collaborations with other local restaurants, Yunnan restaurant In & Out will be serving a selection of a la carte Yunnan dishes at Hulu next to WAB from Mar 26-28. Diners can choose from three of In & Out's most popular signature dishes – roasted bass with lemongrass and chili (RMB 138), beef rolls with mint (RMB 58), and Dehong sago milk dessert with shredded coconut, red beans, glass noodles, and sago (RMB 22) – as well as three dishes created especially for the collab: slow-roasted porcini mushrooms wrapped in banana leaf (RMB 188), a spring appetizer platter featuring Yunnan specialty ingredients (RMB 78), and grilled goat cheese topped with Yunnan ham and figs (RMB 88).
Modern dim sum restaurant Fook Wing Gei by The Orchid has a series of new weekday specials, with one dish available at a special price every day from Tue-Fri. For example, on Friday, their fresh prawn spring rolls are just RMB 18. See all the deals here. They also have two new lunch sets featuring either dry-tossed beef noodles (RMB 65) or steamed rice balls with pork ribs and chicken feet (RMB 75), both served with coconut chicken soup and dressed green veggies.
Cap off Meatless March with a 100 percent plant-based all-you-can-eat brunch at Zarah. The brunch will boast Zarah's usual broad spread of dishes, but this time featuring plant-based brands such as vegan egg substitute Just Egg, oat milk from Oatly, pea protein-based meat substitutes from Zhenrou Brunch, and German sourdough bread from FB Solutions. The brunch is priced at RMB 198 per person and includes one drink, or RMB 298 including free-flow drinks.
