From Mar 1-2, the Badaling section of the Great Wall be off-limits to the general public. As of press time, no explanation has been given for the brief closure, but we’re willing to bet it might be Olympics-related. The Shuiguan section of the Great Wall will remain open.
Thanks to Covid controls being lifted in Fengtai District, the – not to be confused with the in the city's northeast – has been reopened as of Feb 15. Daily capacity will be capped at 50 percent, for the time being, meaning no more than 5,000 people daily, in accordance with continuing epidemic control measures.
The Jianxiangqiao branch of French supermarket chain Carrefour was fined RMB 86,000 by Chaoyang’s Market Supervision and Administration Bureau for selling expired prepackaged food products in violation of China’s food safety laws. The store’s illegal gains of RMB 78 were also confiscated, as it had been made from a transaction of said expired products.
Primary and secondary schools in Beijing are set to open Monday, Feb 21, with traffic to schools expected to peak around 6.30am. Traffic around Guangqumen, Zhongguancun and Niu Jie is expected to be high, as well as in areas around Beijing 101 Middle School, Tsinghua University Affiliated Middle School, Beijing No. 4 Middle School and Beijing No. 8 Middle School.
