After a two year hiatus due to Covid, the Beijing Marathon is finally back this Sunday Nov 6. As usual this also means that there will be inevitable road closures during the race. All roads marked on the map below will be closed from 7.30am Nov 6 until the marathon concludes approximately six hours later, according to Beijng Youth Daily.

Starting at Tiananmen, participants will run west until Xinxing Bridge, at which point the race route turns north until it reaches Haidian Park. After that it briefly heads back south before turning east and then finally heads north again at Xiaoyuehe Park. The marathon route then ends with a trip winding through the whole Olympic area – you can see a zoomed in section for this part of the route in the top left corner of the map above – which finishes at Landscape Avenue.

Requirements for registering for the marathon were stricter this year, with various Covid requirements being in place such as having to be fully vaccinated. However, one of the more tricky requirements is that those wishing to run have to show proof of completing a marathon in six hours or a half-marathon in three hours after 2019 in order to qualify for registration. Despite this, there are still expected to be around 30,000 runners participating in the marathon this year.

According to IQAir as of press time, Sunday is set to see moderate pollution with an AQI of 151-200 currently predicted. Not the most ideal running conditions but still better than some of the previous years.
