Beijing Launches Pilot Project to Enhance Safety of Food Delivery

Beijing is taking steps to enhance the regulation of the food delivery and express courier industries, according to a report from Newsfeed. This year, the city is launching a pilot project to track the real-time journeys of delivery and courier bikes by installing chips on them. The initiative aims to curb illegal driving behavior and ensure the safety of riders and pedestrians. The Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport announced the plan on Wednesday, but it is still unclear whether the delivery platforms or the transport regulator will bear the costs of chip installation. Delivery platforms such as Meituan and Eleme set strict completion time targets for their couriers, which can lead to dangerous driving practices.

The Office of the Work Safety Commission and China's Ministry of Emergency Management have ordered nationwide safety inspections to defuse the risk of major accidents during the holidays. Yin emphasized the importance of normalized management, supervision, and inspection systems, and long-term systematic mechanisms to ensure production safety and defuse hidden fire risks.
