LIZAO CRAFTBREW

狸造精酿

Dedicated to brewing easy-drinking craft beer, Lizao will be bringing a total of eight beers to the fest. These include a number of takes on the IPA, plus interesting brews like their Hoppy Saison, Apricot Berliner Weisse, and two coffee beers. Chief amongst these is the Iced Americano Coffee Ale, which, with espresso roasted on-site and added during brewing, results in a brown ale done up like an iced coffee and fit for a hot summer day.

AppenzellerBier

阿彭策尔精酿啤酒

Since 1886, and for five generations, the Locher family has been brewing Appenzeller Bier from the Appenzell region in northeastern Switzerland. The Brauerai Locher team are firm believers in craftmanship, the careful selection of raw materials, and sustainable production. But their success goes beyond just that. The people, the collaboration between departments, and the commitment of the employees have made the family-run company what it is today: a traditional, sustainable and innovative brewery that’s not just in the heart of the Appenzell, but also an official partner of the Swiss National Tourism Administration and a designated Swiss Airlines liquor brand.

Among the products they’re bringing, which include traditional beers, a number of modern takes like an IPA, as well as a non-alcoholic fruit beer option, the star of the show is the Appenzell Quöllfrisch Hell, a Helles-style lager – a pale golden, crisp version of a classic Bavarian lager – that’s slightly sweet on the palate with a creamy mouthfeel and bitter hoppy finish.

Master Gao

高大师啤酒

Founded in Nanjing in 2008, Master Gao Brewing Co. is one of the oldest craft breweries, and is an active member, advocate, and pusher of China’s craft beer movement. Master Gao’s motto, “Brew Free,” has become the ideological pursuit of the company as well as of craft beer in China as a whole. Along with a range of intriguing IPAs – including the Birdland Hazy, Freebird Hazy, and Three Little Birds Triple Hazy IPAs – they’ve got five others worth trying: Flamingo Fruit Sour Ale, Canary Fruit Sour Ale, Jasmine Tea Lager, one more IPA in the form of their Peach Sour Hazy IPA, and the Red Bayberry Fruit Tea Cider.

Hard Candy Cider

硬糖西打酒

If you’re a fan of cider, then Hard Candy Cider is the booth to visit. Hard Candy are crafters of sessionable ciders perfect for the time you’re in need of a refreshing, bubbly drink. They’ve packed a juicy blast into every bottle by brewing up a range of ciders that go beyond just traditional apple. These include flavors like berry & peach, blood orange, blackberry & passion fruit, and yet more adventurous flavors like ginger, elderflower, mulberry sorbet, and mango habanero. Of course, if you must insist on apple cider, they’ve got a crisp apple flavor (named very appropriately "Krisp Apple") on offer as well.

DaoBrew

道酿

With the tagline "civily brew, wildly grow", DaoBrew is bringing nine beers to the Fest that sound pretty wild, with names like Hamimelon Ale, Sea Salt Pomelo, Chengmsterdam Double IPA, Surfing in the Smooth Sour Ale Smoothie, they've got a bit to choose from. The one they think you should try, though, is the FUMO IPA, a dry, powerful rounded beer that combines a clean bitterness on the palate before welcoming in aromas of citrus and grapefruit, with some passion fruit thrown in for good measure. It's a beer worth savoring and sinking into.

#WAWABEER

哇哇兔酒站

#WAWABEER makes beer under a simple motto: Make yourself at home by drinking with your brothers. They keep things simple with classic flavors and not much worry about names, like “It’s a German Wheat!”“China Tea-Flavored Beer!”, and “Is It PUA or IPA?” Of all these, the beer they hope guests at Beer Fest will try is their “It’s a German Wheat!” It’s a draft beer made without sterilization or filtration, which retains the active yeast and ups the flavor. Plus, with just hops, yeast, water, and malt – they skip the barley malt – what results is a wheat based on the most traditional Bavarian style, with a warming aroma of bananas and cloves.

Brooklyn Brewery

布鲁克林精酿啤酒

Brooklyn Brewery has long been a representative brand of American craft beer. Since its inception in 1988, Brooklyn Brewery products have been known for their balance of creativity with respect for tradition. In 1994, the brewery welcomed renowned New York brewing expert Garret Oliver as brewing director, and linked beer and gourmet production together, setting a precedent for the field in the US.

Along with their classic Brooklyn Lager and Brooklyn Stonewall Inn IPA, they’ve got a newcomer coming to Beer Fest: the Brooklyn Pilsner Crisp Lager. They’ve poured the beating heart of Brooklyn into this unfiltered pilsner, layering clean malts with a balanced wave of bright hops, crowned by an instantly refreshing finish. It’s got toasty and spicy notes, and the subtle citrus hops make this brew an instant classic. The collision of lighting yellow and classic black, combined with graffiti elements, presents the Brooklyn identity and culture to all.

Arrow Factory Brewing

箭厂啤酒

From their brewpub on the banks of Liangma River, this local Beijing brewery does cold beer with a warm heart and lots of flavor. They’ll have some unexpected beers on tap over the weekend: A New Leaf NE IPA, Manmanlai Session IPA, Two Birds Lager, Raspberry Sour, and Well Ain’t That Just Peachy!

That doesn’t mean a classic has been forgotten, though, as the star of the show is the Seeing Double IPA, a rich and flavorful Double IPA crafted with a generous amount of tropical fruit-flavored Simcoe and Citra hops. Every sip brings with it a delightful bitterness and a symphony of complex hop aromas that intertwine on the palate, awakening the taste buds so they can experience the unique charm of a very American-style DIPA.

Beersmith

鲜啤吧

One of the most popular gastropubs in Beijing, Beersmith serves up beer that’s freshly brewed and stored on-site in the CBD. Beersmith will be bringing four classic craft beers: the South German Weiss, Italian Pilsner, I See You IPA and Hopsessed Hazy IPA, plus two summer new beers -- Lychee Lime Seltzer and Mango Dragon Fruited Kölsch. The Mango Dragon is a particular highlight.

Picture this: It’s the height of summer in Beijing, with the heat of the tropics seemingly here to stay. Given the balmy weather, a fruity session ale seems called for. Enter the Mango Dragon – an extremely clean and crisp pale ale fortified with a healthy dose of fresh NFC mango and dragon fruit juices, with enough of the latter for a bit of complexity plus a beautiful pink hue.

Trueman Brewing

楚门津酿

See the wise man and try to emulate him. Smell the nice beer and be reminded of Trueman. It’s with this that Trueman hopes their beers will stand out among the crowd, and if their menu is anything to go off of, they just might. The light beer is covered with the Cool Down Hoppy Lager, cider represented by the Blue Lychee Cider, dark beer gets to shine thanks to the Flipped Chocolate Milk Stout, gose and sour get a nod from the Kill Blood Orange Gose and Hurricane Sour Ale, respectively, and then there are the IPAs – GuiMao Double, Evolutionism New England, and the simply titled Elegant IPA.

Secret Route

秘密航线

Secret Route treats their beers like explorations into the unknown, like secret roads that no one else knows or has yet explored. The road they invite you to explore for Beer Fest is called Jack Storm, a West Coast Double IPA with a reddish copper body and persistent, fluffy foam. The double hopping results in high bitterness and a pronounced hoppy aroma full of pine and resinous notes. On the palate it’s persistent hop bitterness, but with strong and rich caramel malt on the finish. How’s that sound for a road trip?

GOU TAPROOM

苟市

With 77 taps on site, GOU TAPROOM is a leading brand in pet-friendly craft beer restaurants in Beijing. On the menu for the weekend, they’ll be bringing four beers: Tons of Raspberry Sour AleRice Wine Infused GoseDay Day New Double Hazy IPA, and the German Shepherd Wheat. A highlight for GOU is the Rice Wine Gose, a sour beer infused with Chinese-style rice wine and made in honor of Lumicang Hutong, the home of GOU TAPROOM and the original site of the national granary during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Brew Chief Brewing

大酋良酝

In the Book of Rites, the official supervising wine-making was referred to as the Brew Chief. The Brew Chief was the head official in charge of brewing and making relevant policies related to brewing in ancient times. Keeping in mind the principles of this ancient official, Brew Chief Brewing seeks to combine Western beer brewing techniques with ancient techniques for present-day drinkers. This is represented by their roster: the Scholar Sour IPAVisionary Hazy IPAGolden Flower WeizenRed Lips Haw Beijing Weisse, and the Sukhavati West Coast IPA.

Grand Millenium Hotel Beijing

千禧大酒店

Grand Millenium Hotel is bringing a few heavyweights to this weekend of boozing: PaulanerStella Artois, and Hoegaarden. The #1 beer brand from Munich, Paulaner has seen success in over 80 countries worldwide, with strong growth year after year and over 1 million hectoliters sold every year. Hoegaarden, from Belgium, is famous for its traditional Belgian Witbier (white beer). Finally, there’s Stella Artois, one of the best-selling beers in the world, from Leuven, Belgium. Stella Artois was originally only brewed during Christmastime for Leuven locals, which earned it the name “Christmas Star.”

Yogogo Discount Store

优购够跨境商品折扣仓

The store offering global goods in a one-stop shop is showcasing Kapuziner Kellerweizen. Discerning beer connoisseurs will find this naturally cloudy wheat beer particularly enjoyable. The addition of fine yeast, cultivated by the brewery itself, gives it classic top-fermented, fine notes, with a fruity flavor and reduced fizz that make it a nice Kapuziner specialty.

Ye Brewing

野鹅微醺

Hailing from Shijiazhuang, Ye Brewing has a simple philosophy: “wild, local, and natural.” The brewery aims to create good, natural, and creative beer with wild ideas, scientific and rigorous technology, and excellent selection of materials. The good beers they’ll be bringing are the Fragrance of Wuyue Tea WitbierNightingale Laval Black Cake Imperial StoutMelon & Yogurt Berliner Weisse, and – the star of the weekend – the Green Rain DDH Hazy IPA.

To Ye Brewing, an IPA requires a balance of flavor composition and expression of ripe fruit and fresh herbs, an art in itself. And for this Hazy IPA, they’ve used a whole bunch of floral and herbal hops that’ve been double dry hopped at a low temperature to make sure the fresh herb flavors show up on the palate.

This in turn creates a drinking experience they can only describe as the herbaceousness of a walk on a damp trail in the mountains after a fresh rain. The tropical fruit flavors emerge like the sun in the mid- to late afternoon, blending together in a full and balanced way.

Boltcraft

脱缰精酿

“Sail in life, hail in peace” is the phrase this avant-garde craft beer brand lives by. It’s an attitude that’s brought in a few recognitions for the beers they’ll have at Beer Fest, like the CBC Award winning All-Seeing IPA and Out of Control Tropical IPA. These will be there along with the Mountains and Seas Belgian Wheat, the Crops Lager Pilsner, and the Martian Double IPA.

To Boltcraft, the Martian is an interesting alien. It’s brewed with Citrus and Mosaic hops, with a stormy aroma and minute-long aftertaste. The beer is inspired by humanity’s efforts to reach Mars, where harsh windstorms are known to prowl, resulting in wonderful consequences.

LIONK Craft Brew

狮王精酿

LIONK is committed to the pursuit of pure craft brewing as an art, not just the process of brewing, but the continuous pursuit of excellence in creation. Through real-time innovation, they’re able to create a pleasing taste, so every sip contains infinite flavor.

In Chinese culture, the lion symbolizes confidence, wisdom, and strength, as well as growth, prosperity, and longevity. Yanjing Group chose to name the brand LIONK aiming to build it into a new generation of craft beer masters focused on quality creating craft beer more in line with Chinese tastes.

The quality beer they’ll be showing off at the Fest is the Lao Pao’er Session IPA, crafted using Citra hops imported from the US, emitting a golden hue and accompanied by a rich, delicate foam and moderate bitterness. This IPA highlights the elegant and robust characteristics of American hops without being too overpowering, clocking in at just 4.1 percent ABV and allowing aromas of citrus, fruit, and floral notes to shine through.

Wild Kite

野风筝

One of Beijing’s youngest brewpubs, Wild Kite has slowly made a name for itself since it opened back in September of 2021. They are bringing seven of their wild brews to try, with favorites like the Sunset Blvd West Coast IPA and the Autumn Scenery Belgian Wit, as well as some notables like the Catch Cocoa & Cherry LagerNew Zealand Coasttline NZ Hop Pilsner, and HuangHuang’s Submarine DDH IPA.

The latter is a masterpiece created for those who may not have heard the famous Beatles song, who may not have read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and who might not even know about the world’s first nuclear submarine, but who should really get to know Masami Nagazawa of Dongcheng District. Just like Huanghuang, this beer is approachable yet full of passion. They invite you to join them on Yellow Yellow’s submarine and explore a big, vast, double dry hopped ocean of beer.

ANYTOP

安益达

ANYTOP has decades of beer industry supply chain experiences, providing high quality, cost-effective, unfiltered, and unpasteurized fresh beer. To the Fest they bring three simple brews: the Pilsner, the Session IPA, and the Milk Stout. Out of these, the Pilsner is their favorite, which takes as a base the tradition of the pale crisp beer first brewed in the city of Pilsen in the Czech Republic long ago, and adds to it specialty New Zealand hops, using traditional beer-making techniques to make this a nice thirst-quenching beer.

Barublackhat

Barublackhat comes to the Fest by way of Japan, not far from Sapporo, in Hokkaido, to be exact, where it first moved in 2009. Barublack’s beer, called Slow Brew, is made using only wheat from this region of Japan, and unlike typical beer restaurants, it’s designed to be like a simple bar from which you can watch your glass filled from a golden faucet. Keeping with this simple presentation, they brew a simple, five percent ABV wheat that’s organic and easily drinkable.

Malt Tiger

麦芽虎

This gastropub is focused on quality handmade beer and American “low and slow” smoked barbecue. For their lineup they’ve got the I Need You Green Apple Berliner WeisseGai Xia Ge Hoppy LagerShen Nong IPAClear Sky Hazy IPAA Little Sunlight Coffee Rum Porter, and, on the non-alcoholic side of things, a Sea Salt Plum Soda Water.

Their showcase beer is the Gai Xia Ge Hoppy Lager, brewed with only four ingredients: water, malt, hops, and yeast. This hoppy lager boasts strong citrus and tropical hop notes, making it a nice refreshing brew to drink on a hot summer’s day.

Slowboat Brewing

悠航鲜啤

Founded in 2011 in the mountains outside Beijing, Slowboat brews beers in small batches only, to ensure optimal freshness. Creativity, purpose, and passion are put into each of the 90 different beers they brew each year. If you’re in Beijing, they invite you to stop by one of their brewpubs or taprooms, where they normally have 20 fresh beers on tap. As an additional convenience to beer lovers, Slowboat’s fresh canned beers can now be enjoyed no matter where you are in China.

Slowboat has on offer at the Fest the classic Monkey’s Fist Imperial IPA, joined by a few newbies including the Bingtang Hulu WheatSanya Bay DDH Hazy Coconut IPA, and the Slow-Cari Sweat Gose. But the beer they really want you to consider is the YōuYōu LèLè Cheese Tea Beer: Blueberry Coconut. For those out of the loop, the YōuYōu LèLè Cheese Tea Beer is a wildly delicious and complex dessert of a beer soured with Slowboat’s homegrown culture, dosed with milk sugar, blended with jasmine tea and packed with a rotating selection of fruit puree – this time being blueberry and coconut – with a nice dash of sea salt.

PUHR×GOLDEN HILL

鲁尔×秋山

RUHR Brewing is doing a little team up with Golden Hill Ale House, and they’re coming down from Liangmaqiao to serve up some brews and food at the Fest. Their teamup has resulted in a number of brews, including their Fruit Yogurt Berliner Weisse. Ten tropical fruit flavors are added to a Berlin sour wheat base, resulting in citrus, passion fruit, and floral notes with a boost of yogurt creaminess.

PandaBrew

熊猫精酿

Founded in 2013 by two overseas returnees with a passion for beer making, PandaBrew has since become one of the most recognizable bottled craft beers in China, boasting outrageous flavors like their Outlaw Dried Tangerine Peel WitPanda Eyes Honey Ale, and Safe Date Ginger Golden Ale. They’re bringing the aforementioned classics with them to Beer Fest, available on tap (Outlaw and Panda Eyes) or bottled (all three).

Along with these, they’ve got six total beers on tap and in bottles, as well as three in slim cans. Of all these, the Xiaomei Strawberry Seasalt Gose (bottled) is their favorite. A strawberry and sea salt-flavored sour, this beer has a hint of bread sweetness, with ample sourness as well as notes of coriander, grass, and wood.

HUZI Craft Beer

虎滋精酿餐吧

HUZI is a recently opened retro American-style beer bar in Beijing. Their fat and cute tiger logo symbolizes the guilt-free enjoyment of a tasty craft beer and American fusion food. They serve up their signature burgers, fries, and, of course, craft beer, all day long.

The three beers on their menu are the Awakening Double IPA, Coconut and Pineapple Beer, and a Barley Wine. Of these, they’d especially like you to consider the Awakening DIPA, loaded with extra hops, malt, barley, wheat, mango juice, and pineapple juice for a very fruity take on a strong IPA, and clocking in at eight percent ABV.

First, it’s time for breakfast. The Breakfast Stout is brewed with flaked oats, bitter and imported chocolates, and two kinds of coffee to be the coffee lover’s consummate beer. The Mahou x Founders Session IPA is a beer with all the aroma and flavor of an IPA, but one that’s also refreshing and drinkable, with nuances of stone fruit, currants, citrus, and pine prominent against a floral background. Finally, there’s the Micro Pale, a light, easy drinking beer made with Mosaic and Citra hops – great for pairing with a lengthy lunch.

This brew, made in collaboration with 10th Masters Cup Grand Champion Ma Haitao, was selected in the 2022 Masters Cup for Gold Medal in Specialty Beer category. Using a sour saison and Colombian coffee as a base, the result is a sweet and sour, refreshing and juicy, three-dimensional beer that’s like a cold sorbet coffee bomb in the mouth.
