Executive Director Joined the Discussion at the Invitation of myGwork
myGwork is a UK-registered company, which aims to promote diversity and inclusiveness in workplace and other areas. At the invitation of myGwork, Executive Director Xin Ying joined the discussion. In the discussion, Xin Ying shared the challenges of LGBTIQ community during the pandemic and what the Center has done with other LGBTIQ NGO members who are from France, the UK and Lebanon respectively.

Launch the First Event of “Beijing+25” Series of Events
This year is the 25th anniversary of 95’ World Conference on Women. To strengthen young people’s confidence, to promote gender equality, and to further their understanding of meaning and influence of the Conference, Executive Director Xin Ying planned and organized a series of events to commemorate the Conference. The theme of the first event is “Our 1995: what did 95’ World Conference on Women 25 years ago look like?”. The event invited four senior NGO members specialized in sex and gender studies, who were also participants of the Conference. In the event, they shared their impression and understanding of the Conference. Additionally, they also talked about what influence the Conference brought to them. The event attracted 176 audiences to join.

1. Xin Ying, as a guest, participated in the Mental Health Forum of ShanghaiPRIDE.

Transgender Support Group (Father’s Day Special Event)
Upon the Father’s Day in June, the Department organized a social work group event to talk about the family of origin. With the support from the team leaders and facilitators, group members discussed about their own coming-out experiences and family relationships, their conceptionsof rolesof a father played in the family, families of origins’ influence on them, and how to repair the relationship with their families of origins. They also exchanged their ideas about what kind of attitudes they should adopt to face such issues if the relationship can not be repaired.
The Poster of the Support GroupPast and Present: the Transgender Community in mainland China- Review on the Original ArticleOnJune 19th, the Department released the original article, Past and Present: the Transgender Community in mainland China, which comprehensively presents to people the overall development of transgender community fromancient times, the establishment of People’s Republic of China, and all the way to current times; it records milestones of the development of organizations oftransgender community in recent years in detail. Following this article, the Center is going to cooperate with Trans Psychology to comb through the historyof the transgender community in a systematic way.Transgender People in HistoryPsychology-related ColumnIn June, the Department organized thesecond Psychology Talk on Tencent Meeting and attracted 12 participants. The Department also established the development team for psychologists’ community,which is responsible for organizing online and offline interactions for LGBTIQ+ affirming psychologists. In the same month, the psychology-related columnreleased six articles, and there are currently 15 articles in the column with an average of nearly 1500 pageviews. These articles improve the understandingof mental health of the community.Pride Month Training on Gender Equality at VMwareTwo sessions of trainings on gender equality andanti-sexualharassment coordinated by the Workplace Diversity Initiative teamand ShanghaiPRIDE were held at VMware. Drawing on current affairs, theInitiative’s Project Manager Naying Ren and the founder of ShanghaiPRIDECharlene, educated on and promoted gender equality awareness, expoundedrelevant cases and provided action advice for the company, the human resources department and employees. Through round-table talks, employees of VMware andDell shared the companies’ culture on diversity and inclusion and policies against sexual harassment. The training sessions were well received by both the employees and the companies. The Training on June 24th at VMwareBusiness Diversity and Inclusion ProjectMade its Presenceat the Workplace Diversity and Inclusion Forum at ShanghaiPRIDEThe Business Diversity and Inclusion Project as an in-depth cooperating partner of ShanghaiPRIDE, made its presence at the BusinessDiversity and Inclusion Forum and the Pride Job Fair held on June 13th.The project manager Naying Ren gave an opening speech on behalf of the Centerand presided the National LGBTQ Business Inclusion Research sub-forum. The head of the Development Department John Shen presided How Supporting LGBTQ Benefits Companies Overall sub-forum. The Center’s intern Leslie attendedthe Pride Job Fair as a representative of the Project. The Business Diversityand Inclusion Project together with ShanghaiPRIDE promoted awareness of LGBT diversity in workplace of companies and individuals in China. Great success was achieved.
Preparation for Fundraising for 2020 Mental Health Aid for Sexual Minorities CompletedIn June, the Mental Health Aid for SexualMinorities Program team constituted by 20 volunteers completed the initial stage production of a series of graphic designs, photographs and videos and written works. These publicity materials will all be released in the Program’s online fundraising campaign. Please stay tuned.The Pride Businesses Program In ActionIn the Pride Month, we initiated the PrideBusinesses Program and achieved cooperation with more than 10 LGBTQ+ friendly businesses in Beijing. Between June and August, these Pride Businesses will support the Center in their own ways and demonstrate support for the Pride across Beijing.1.Workplace Diversity Initiative· In June, the digitalization of the survey onLGBTQ+ friendliness of companies nationwide was accomplished and tests on thesurvey are underway.· Training for developing gender equality kit washeld at BP Shanghai branch, which was a great success.· The Center took part in ShanghaiPride’s Business Diversity and Inclusion Forum and Pride Job Fair.· The Center organized two Pride Month events in collaboration with VMware.· Negotiations for cooperation with four companieswere held.· Proofreading of a translation of a report on business diversity and inclusion is underway.· Four career support group events were conducted.· The Center took part in an event on workplace diversity organized by a cooperating organization.· New volunteers were recruited. At present, theteam of Workplace Diversity Initiative consists of 33 volunteers belonging to subgroups for community development, research and public relations.2.Fundraising of the Development DepartmentIn May, the Center welcomed 31 new Pride partnersand currently there are 550 Pride Partners. In May, a sum of 21,634 yuan was donated to the Center by the Pride Partners. Your support and companionship are appreciated. The article explores and discusses theorigin of the Yaoi culture and the impact of heteronormativity on female and LGBT communities, and expresses expectations for the Yaoi culture to be more diverseand inclusive. The Javelin Text Team as well as other teams of the Media Department will continue producing high-quality works. Please stay tuned.The Night Watch Video Team Released its First VideoOn June 28th, the Night Watch Video Team’s first video Growing as practicing LGBT Movement - out of Eighth Grade Syndrome and into strength and light was released on the Center’s WeChat Official Account (ID: bjlgbtcenter). In the video, the Studio’s members interviewed three of the Center’s staff whose biological sexesare females, and they shared their growth and experience while doing LGBT charity work.
Community DevelopmentDepartment Basic Trainings and Assessments for Volunteers CompletedIn June, assessments and resits for basic volunteer training were conducted. 102 volunteers had registered for the training, among which 92 actually participated in it and 84 passed the assessments. Congratulations! We are excited to see volunteers take part in forthcoming works using professional knowledge and skills.The First Event of The Longest Distance in The World Successfully HeldIn June, the first team event was held, of which the theme was “Dialogue: Monogamy and Open Relationship”. Near 60 people attended and discussed loyalty, stability and jealousy in intimate relationships. Here is one of the feedbacks that we received after the event:“(Through this event) I realized I have been cultivated into who I am now andthis cultivation has imposed on me the view that monogamy is the only right way to conduct intimate relationships and made me believe that is the natural state of a relationship. ” Meanwhile, there were also participants reflecting on whether “that really is the only possibility”. The event promote done’s ruminationon groups different from oneself, which is also the original goal of it: to promote communication between different groups and break the shackles of stereotypes and prejudices.
Between May 30th and June 29th, the Centrereceived a total of 2710 yuan from individual donations. A list of donators isshown as below, and some names have been changed to remain anonymity.
