'F*ck You' Scribbled on Chinese Passport in Vietnam

A Chinese woman traveling to Vietnam received an unpleasant surprise last week when she discovered that border staff there had written some very nasty messages in her passport.

The Guangzhou woman, surnamed Zhong, handed her passport into Vietnamese border staff at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City. When they handed it back, she discovered that the words "F*ck you" had been written on two separate pages.

The offensive scrawlings appeared on pages that feature a Chinese map with the nine-dash line — a point of contention between the two countries with regards to claims in the South China Sea. The map appears on three different pages throughout the most recent version of the official PRC passport — pages 8, 24 and 46. The offensive messages scribbled in Zhong's passport appeared on pages 8 and 24.

Zhong expressed her disappointment in the civil servants' behavior, and the Chinese consulate in Ho Chi Minh City said that they are investigating the case. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese embassy in China has yet to comment on the incident.
