Hunan Woman's 17-Month Long Pregnancy Sets World Record

A Hunan woman has reportedly set a Guinness World Record for her 17-month-long pregnancy, People's Daily reports.

According to local news reports, Wang Shi first became pregnant in February of 2015. She was due on November 15, 2015, but that date came and went. Wang has since been going to the hospital nearly every week for check ups.

In her 14th month of pregnancy, doctors ruled out a C-section because the fetus was considered "not mature enough for the operation."

People's Daily says that Wang's pregnancy set a Guinness World Record, however that record doesn't actually appear anywhere on their website, nor has an official announcement been made on their Twitter feed. Prior to Wang's case, the longest pregnancy on record most commonly cited appears to be that of Los Angeles resident Beulah Hunter, who in 1945 gave birth to her healthy daughter Penny Diana after a 375-day gestation period.

Wang is said to be in good health, with the baby currently weighing in at 3.8 kilograms. She plans to have a C-section in the 18th month if the baby doesn't make an appearance by then.

Wang's husband says that doctors "can't explain the reason" why she hasn't given birth yet.
