Praise the lord! Finally, we have a definitive ranking of the world's cheapest cities for suit cleaning. We all know that you can’t possibly go five minutes in the city without overhearing conversations about the smog, visas and – of course – affordable suit dry cleaning.

Rest easy, business ladies and gentlemen – the expert mathematicians at Zipjet have answered your prayers. Using a long-winded algorithm, the British dry cleaning service put together the '2018 Global Dry Cleaning Index' to compare dry cleaning costs so that you don't have to.

In what will come as a serious blow to the millions of keen onlookers in Beijing, Shanghai came out as the most affordable city in China. It was crowned as the third cheapest out of the numerous cities surveyed, while Beijing came in at 11th on the list. The average cost of dry cleaning in Shanghai was counted at USD2.90, which is 8.77 percent below the world’s average.

Beijing on the other hand was a pricier USD4.21, 7.71 percent below the average. Meanwhile, devastated fans of the dry cleaning industry in Hong Kong will be lamenting the fact that the city was actually 0.78 percent over the global average, placing the city in the embarrassing 61st slot out of a hundred.

In an attempt to ease these tensions, the study does point out that the average price to dry clean a suit in Hong Kong was worth only a mere 3.3 hours of minimum wage work. In comparison, Cape Town, the 60th cheapest dry cleaning service and nearest rival to Hong Kong, had to work a whopping 8.8 hours of minimum wage to have a suit dry cleaned. For Beijingers and Shanghainese alike, dry cleaning a suit required 2.5 and 1.4 hours of minimum wage work respectively.

Jakarta, Indonesia took the prize of least expensive city, with the average cost to clean a suit at USD2.20.

Meanwhile, we suspect that emotions are running wild in Oslo. The city took first place as the most expensive place to dry clean a suit, with an absurd average price of USD52.03, 31 percent higher than the global average.
