为什么老外喜欢把 though 放在最后?
和英美人聊天的时候,常常会听到对方说完一句话之后跟上一个 though 。虽然你心里很清楚 though 的意思是「虽然」,但是好像一下子很难反应过来为什么要加上这个 though(大多数情况下,though 的确是放在句子开头的 )。来看下面的例句和对话:
I'm sorry, I can't stay for lunch. I'll have a coffee, though. 很抱歉我不能留下来吃午饭。不过我还是喝杯咖啡吧。(a coffee = a cup of coffee)
—— You have six hours in the airport between flights! 你转机的时候要在机场等待6个小时阿!—— I don’t mind, though. I have lots of work to do. I’ll just bring my laptop with me. 但是我不介意。我还有很多工作要做,带上笔记本电脑就行。
看到这里是不是已经有答案了?没错,though 除了「虽然」之外,还有「但是」的含义。
THOUGH / HOWEVER
though 在表示「但是」的时候,用法和 however 基本一致。只不过 though 在表示转折的时候,常常会放在句子最后。对比下面两个句子:
We thought the figures were correct. However, we have now discovered some errors. 我们原以为数据是正确,但现在我们发现了一些错误。
Economics is a difficult subject. It's interesting, though. 经济学是一门难懂的学科,但很有趣。
THOUGH / ALTHOUGH
在表示「虽然」的时候,although 和 though 可以互换着用。口语里 though 更常用
。
此外,可以说 even though,但是不能说 even although。
THOUGH 用在倒装句
同样在表示「虽然」的时候,though 可以引导一个倒装句。
Strange though it may sound, I was pleased it was over. 虽然这么说有点奇怪,但我还是很高兴这事儿结束了。
此时 though 一般不能用 although 代替。
