Overseas Students Serve as Metro Volunteers
International students from Shanghai University work as volunteers at Shanghai University metro station.
Ten overseas students from Shanghai University worked as volunteers at the Shanghai University Station of metro Line 7 on April 17.
The volunteering, which will last four weeks, is the first cooperation between the university's College of International Exchange and Shanghai Metro. The college will send eight to ten students to work as volunteers at the station every week.
The students were assigned to provide services at station entrances and exits as well as ticket vending machines. Apart from routine guidance in ticket buying, they also assisted passengers through security checks, especially women, children and elderly passengers carrying large and heavy bags.
"I'm happy to be involved in this volunteer work, it's new and exciting and I really enjoy the feeling of helping people," said Stephen, one of the volunteers.
The station master said he was impressed by the patience and dedicated spirit of the overseas students and welcomed them to take part in volunteer work in the future.
