The Global Association of Art & Design Education and Research (Cumulus), founded in 1990, aims to build a dynamic ecosystem for global mobility, knowledge exchange, and research,endorsed by UNESCO. Since Cumulus transferred to be an international association in 2006, Chinese design education institutions actively participated in its events and many of them have become full members of the institution.Cumulus has been an important platform for exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and international institutions of higher education in art and design education and research.
Nanjing University of the Arts is a university with a long history and profound heritage. As the earliest independent institution of higher education in arts in China, Nanjing University of the Arts is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China and the Government of Jiangsu Province. It is also a high-level university under the Construction Peak Plan of Jiangsu Province. The university currently has 14 secondary schools, including the School of Fine Arts, School of Music, School of Design, School of Film and Television, School of Dance, School of Media, School of Pop Music, School of Industrial Design, School of Humanities, School of Cultural Industry, School of Higher Vocational Education, School of Adult Education, School of International Education; It also has other nine affiliated unites, including Art Research Institute, Information Construction Management Center, Journal Editorial Department, Jiangsu Calligraphy Creation Research Center, Art Museum, Affiliated Secondary Art School, Library, School of Social Education,and International Museum College. There are 43 undergraduate majors, including theories on art history, art management, music performance, musicology, composition and composition technology, musical，dance performance, choreography, choreography, dance education, pop music, performance, drama film and television literature, radio and television choreography, drama film and television director, drama film and television art design, recording art, broadcasting and hosting art, animation, film and television photography and production, fine arts, painting, sculpture, photography, calligraphy, Chinese painting cultural relic protection and restoration, art design, visual communication design, environmental design, product design，intelligent interaction design，clothing and clothing design, public art, arts and crafts, digital media art, art and technology, advertising, art education, cultural industry management, public service management, music education, and intangible cultural heritage protection. At present, the university has over 12000 students, more than 1140 faculty members, over 800 full-time teachers, around 340 full-time teachers with medium to senior professional titles, over 60 doctoral supervisors, and over 200 master's supervisors. There are also over a hundred visiting and part-time professors at home and abroad.
