International Women's Day Celebrations – Weeklong Activities
Women of the world want and deserve an equal future free from stigma, stereotypes, and violence; a future that is sustainable, peaceful, with equal rights and opportunities for all.
To get us there, the world needs women at every table where decisions are being made.
Why International Women's Day (IWD)
International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

Marked annually on March 8th, International Women's Day (IWD) is one of the most important days of the year to:
celebrate women's achievements
raise awareness about women's equality
lobby for accelerated gender parity
fundraise for female-focused charities
With the COVID-19 pandemic still ravaging countries across the world, this year’s IWD is even more important with women at the front lines of the crisis.
Women are leading the fight as health care workers, caregivers, innovators, community organizers, and as some of the most exemplary and effective national leaders in combating the pandemic.
Why is IWD Important for Green Initiatives?
As a leading social enterprise based in China focusing on social and environmental issues, IWD is all the more important for us since women comprise over 80% of all of our work communication, engagement, and partnership in the social impact space.
IWD EVENT SERIES SPONSORS
To further recognize and support the women in our communities, Green Initiatives is partnering with various organizations, companies, and nonprofits to highlight women’s role in our life, society, and business, and further, inspire others – both men and women – to join them, via a weeklong series of inspiring activities.

In partnership with the Consulate General of Sweden in Shanghai, we screen Girl in Tails (Flickan i frack), a notable work by Swedish female director Karin Swanström. The film has come to be viewed both as a classic comedy and a pioneering feminist film from the Swedish “silent era” of the 1920s.
