同济大学的中国“数制”工坊,联合麻省理工大学以及全球Fablab网络,在上海领衔长江三角地区的全球“数制学术”2018年课程。
Fablab O in Tongji University with MIT Fablab and global Fablab Network will provide 2018 Fab Academy within Yangzi River Delta.
Fab Academy认证课程是一个利用业余时间学习为期5个月的课程,在这个过程中,学生每周都会完成一个项目。而课程也会将结合大量的实景化智能设备操作,深入学习从设计、建模到成型的整个过程。
The Fab Academy Diploma is a 5-month part-time learning experience where students plan and execute a new project each week. At Fab Academy you will learn how to envision, prototype and document your ideas through many hours of hands-on experience with digital fabrication tools.
Fab的证书是Fab Academy课程学习的一个证明。学生成绩通过技能的掌握程度进行评定,而不是学习时间或学分。Fab Academy将会是一段快节奏、动手实践、每周一个新项目的学习旅程。期间,每个人都需随时记录他们每个项目的制作过程,从而汇集成个人的技术成果的简历。
The Fab Diploma is the result of the sum of Fab Academy Certificates. Progress towards the diploma is evaluated by a student's acquired skills rather than time or credits. The Fab Academy is a fast paced, hands-on learning experience where students plan and execute a new project each week. Each individual documents their progress for each project, resulting in a personal portfolio of technical accomplishments.

Fab Academy is a distributed educational model providing a unique educational experience. Each Fab Lab that participates in the Fab Academy program is part of a global Fab Lab / Fab Academy network. These Fab Labs are Nodes that offer the Fab Academy program. Students view and participate in global lectures broadcasted every Wednesdays at 9:00 am - 12:00 pm EST. The lectures are recorded and available to students throughout the semester. In addition to the lectures, there are 2 / 3 lab days each week where students have access the digital fabrication equipment and personal help with projects. Each Fab Lab will establish the schedule for these Lab days. Fab Academy faculty, who are leaders in their respective fields, provide global video lectures, supervise academic content, and guide research. Hands-on instruction in the labs is provided by instructors who supervise and evaluate Certificates, develop and disseminate instructional material, and assist with projects.

The Fab Academy teaches principles and applications of digital fabrication

The role of Fab Academy is to initiate, mentor and technically train new students for participation and leadership in the global Fab Lab Network community.It’s how we train our teachers.It’s also a great way to gain exposure to a wide variety of digital fabrication, electronics, molding and casting and composites practices and build skills in a short amount of time (typically 19 weeks).
It’s not for the faint of heart but the rewards are great.

Fab Academy was developed to teach hands-on skills in fab labs,
which began as an outreach project from MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms, and
has grown into a global network of more than 500 labs. Fab Academy instruction
is based on MIT’s popular rapid-prototyping course How To Make (almost)
Anything, both taught by Prof. Neil Gershenfeld.

•A computer-controlled laser cutter, for press-fit assembly of 3D structures from 2D parts.

What should I know before starting Fab Academy?

You should be able to use a computer and have basic knowledge of
some of the topics discussed in the course. Global sessions and some labs local
sessions are in english. You should also be able to understand, speak and write
fluent English. Some labs offer pre-academy classes to bring you up to speed to
the course before it starts. Confirm with you local lab.

Fab Academy requires you to attend the lectures and local
sessions in a Fab Academy node during the whole course, which is a fab lab with
the required materials and resources to complete the program. Luckily the Fab
Lab Network is present all over the world and you can find a Fab Academy Node
nearby to follow the classes. The following countries host Fab Academy nodes:
Netherlands, Spain, UK, Iceland, Finland, Italy, France, Chile, Mexico, Peru,
Colombia, Ecuador, India, New Zeeland, USA, Canada, China, South Korea, Japan,

需要多少时间?
How much time does it take?

The time commitment is about 16+ hours a week at minimum, but
could be far greater if the student is highly motivated, does not possess the
background for a particular unit (or units) or just wants to really throw
themselves into the program.

The Fab Academy Diploma will be issued by a distributed Global
Evaluation Committee after satisfactorily completing the course of study in the
Principles and Applications of Digital Fabrication. Individual certificates
will also be issued for students successfully completing individual topics.

Many Fab Academy graduates improved their career opportunities after taking the program. There's high demand in the job market for talented digital fabrication experts and fab lab managers, but the knowledge offered by the course can be applied to any profession requiring rapid prototyping. 上学期的Fablab O上海,从一场新的变革中开始了:一位经验丰富的老师,来自罗马的,他曾在巴黎开办Fab Academy,还有两个新学生,强文思(J.travis)和兆伟,他们准备开始一场可能永远改变他们的生活的冒险。
Last
semester at Fablab O Shanghai the year began with a fresh wind of changes: a
new instructor, Saverio, coming from Rome, an experienced instructor that
previously run the Fab Academy in Paris, and two new students, J.travis and
Zhaowei, each of them ready to embark in an adventure that would change their
lives forever.
西萨维(Saverio),
Fablab O|中国“数制”工坊课程开发导师,同济大学设计创意学院,研究助理,2015年全球FabAcademy课程毕业生;
Fablab O | China Fablab course mentor, College of Design and Innovation of Tongji University, research assistant, 2015 Global FabAcademy course graduates;

Saverio used to work as an architect and university instructor in Italy, and in 2014 he was among the group of people that opened the first fablab in Rome. He decided to quit his job and enrolled in the Fab Academy in Milan in 2015. Since then his life changed, he started traveling the world organizing workshops about digital fabrication and he moved to France to be the instructor of the first Fab Academy organized in Paris until he landed in Shanghai to bring his experience and dedication for teaching to Fablab O.

J.travis Russett, an american architect, living in China for the past 10 years, felt it was time to change his career path and develop his own design studio called "estia".He wanted to explore the new possibilities given by digital fabrication and how they can benefit a new approach to design: joining Fab Academy was the best way to reach such objectives!
He had no previous knowledge of electronics and just a very little programming skills. Yet, during the semester he was able to achieve astonishing results: he developed a robot that paints water calligraphy called “Dìshūbot” and his final project is a battery that source free and clean energy from moss!

His great achievements were possible thanks to his dedication but also to the innovative approach to education we use in Fablab O Shanghai and in the Fablab Network.
Only three months after graduation J.travis succesfully established his new design studio and he received a job offer directly from Tongji University to become a teacher for their STEAM education projects in high-schools. His time and money investment has been fully and quickly repaid!
Travis的“地书”机器人 / Travis's "Dìshūbot"

Hu Zhaowei is a researcher at Shanghai Maritime University where he completed a master in mechanical design. He wanted his university to set up a Fablab in their school and he joined the Fab Academy to be able to run the fablab afterwards. Zhaowei attended half of the course remotely from his own lab and he designed and built a machine that uses gravity as a source of movement: his final project received the praise of Prof. Neil Gershenfeld, the director of the course!
Right after graduation, Zhaowei began working in the new fablab that was settled in Shanghai Maritime University.

全英语教学 / English
一名学生满足了以下条件,将获准从Fab 学院毕业:
1.根据评估文件的标准,他/她已完成并记录所有的作业。
2.他/她在六月(或一月)的最后一次演讲中向学院和同行们提交了最终项目。
3.他/她已被评估并通过了本地教师和全球评估员的评估。对于2017年的学生来说,这一程序是在应用程序中进行的,你可以用你的fablabs访问它。
4.他/她已支付相应的Fab 学院的学费和全球评估费(如果是持续学生)
A student graduates from Fab Academy under the following conditions:
1. He/she has completed and documented ALL the assignments, based on the standards of the Assessment Document.
2. He/she has presented the Final Project to the Faculty and to their peer in the Final Presentations rounds of June (or January).
3. He/she has been evaluated and passed the assessment of both Local Instructor and Global Evaluator. For 2017 students, this procedure took place in the App, which you can access with your fablabs.io login info.
4. He/she has paid their corresponding Fab Academy tuition fees and the Global Evaluation fees (if is a continuing student)

Asthe first built fablab in mainland China, FABO undertakesthree missions: community construction (FABO C), education (FABO U) andentrepreneurship (FABO I). FABO is based on the establishment ofnationalinnovation ecosystem, trying to link public platform in schools,businesses andcommunities, dock excellent domestic and foreign resources,ventral capital,and promote innovation and creativity into the market, help newround wave ofinnovation and entrepreneurship in China. In the past two years,FABO has held over 100 interdisciplinary open-nights, more than 50 workshopstopics on open softwareand hardware, and has hosted US-China Youth MakerContest three times, Intelligent Wearable Contest among China, Japan and Koreaonce, PUJIANG INNOVATION FORUM 2015, besides, has also hatched adozeninnovative projects. Currently apart from Fablab O Shanghai, Fablab O -Shenzhenwas settled in Shenzhen Longong District in June 2015 and also FablabO - Suzhousettledin Suzhou New District just a few weeks before.
