Dear Students and BIBA Family,
Today's theme is love and creativity.
You must have heard about Design Thinking before. David Kelley founded the famous Stanford Design Institute at Stanford University. BIBA is also very honored to invite the lecturers of the design institute to teach our teachers and students a course about Design Thinking. Mr. Watson, the Head of the Design Department at BIBA has also introduced this kind of thinking in the parent workshops a couple of times already.
According to the research of Stanford University, design thinking consists of five steps: Empathy, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. Among the five, empathy is the most important step, which is the key to the success of a product. Practicing Empathy involves doing interviews, shadowing, seeking to objectively understand (not judge) the client and the situation.
The video we just watched shows how teachers can creatively bring Art class into an art museum, demonstrate how to make clay and potato sculptures in the kitchen at home. In science class, teachers use all available props and scenes to demonstrate the experiments at home. Further, the children's innovation in art and literature is exactly what we saw during the outbreak.
In the end, I think our teachers have exceptionally practiced empathy -- which, I believe, is ultimately love in their hearts: a love that unites us with our bigger world, and a love that unites us with those near to us. With such love, we are able to create wonderful and beautiful things, like what we have seen the past few days.
Thank you for your listening today. See you tomorrow!
