Chinese New Year is in full swing[活跃;蓬勃高涨] in the U.S, as more than 7 million people of various Asian descent[血统] celebrate and more importantly, spend. Traditionally, gifts for the New Year have consisted of red envelopes called hongbao that contain cold hard cash. The growth of the Asian consumer, however, has given rise to a new tradition of shopping for the perfect gift, and major retailers from low-end[低档的;廉价的;生产低档产品的] to high, such as Macy’s[梅西百货] and Bloomingdales, are taking notice.
