My Mom Wanted Me To Cover Up Her Double Life But I Betrayed Her!
Hi, everyone! I`m Leah. I want to tell you how I learned that I shouldn’t get involved in other people`s relationships. I made a mess, and I feel bad about it.
Me and my mom, Lisa, have been living without my dad for 3 years now. He left us because he fell in love with another woman. But that`s another story. So mom hasn't been in any relationships since him. I thought that she might be afraid of a fresh start. You know… `Cause dad cheated on her. But in a couple of months I`m going to college, and I don`t wanna leave her alone. A 40-year-old woman, living alone, in a house with a cat? That`s really sad. So I came up with a plan.
I made a profile for my mother on Tinder and started looking for a candidate. After a couple of likes and matches I have chosen the perfect one – Kevin, 42 years old, single. I chatted with him for a while, and soon he asked me out! Well, more precisely, he asked my mother out. OK! All I had to do next was talk my mother into this. She was always so mild-mannered - I knew that if I just suggested that she go on date with an unknown man, she wouldn`t agree. So I decided to force that decision. I walked into her room and said: "Hi, mom. I set up a date for you. It's tomorrow, so we have to get ready!" She was shocked, honestly. But it worked out! The first thing she asked me was not about the date, but about what she would wear. You see? It`s a good strategy – confuse your enemy, and then attack! The next day she started to have doubts about it, but I assured her that she was just worrying and everything would be fine.
Then the evening came. My mother looked like a queen. Nice black dress, super made-up. This man had no chance! Soon Kevin arrived, and they went on the date. I was so nervous! Maybe even more than my mom! I was hoping that everything would go smoothly. After a while, I realized that my mom had been gone for a long time - and that's a good sign. It means they found some common ground.
She got back late, and I began to ask her about the date. But the answer was obvious, because my mom just blossomed like a flower. She was so glad that she had agreed, and admitted that she missed the feeling of when someone is interested in you. I was so happy that it worked out! It was one small step for me, but it was a giant leap for my mother`s happiness! For months there was an atmosphere of positivity in our house. Mom just glowed with happiness. She went out with Kevin pretty often and always came back in such a good mood. That's exactly what she needed! A healthy relationship!
But I didn't expect that mom would go overboard with it. One evening, she was getting ready for a date in a rush. Nervously trying to choose a dress, quickly doing her makeup... I was amused by how hard she was trying to impress her boyfriend. That's so cute! Then the doorbell rang, and mom was ready. She opened the door and there was a complete stranger on our doorstep! He kissed my mother and said hi to me. I was completely at a loss for words. Mom said, "Leah, this is Rob. Rob, Leah. I'll be late, don't wait up!" And they just left. What the heck just happened?! Rob? Who's Rob? Did mom find a new boyfriend? That's so weird. I thought she and Kevin were okay. I could barely get her on a first date, and now she easily found herself a new boyfriend. I mean this is good, I just didn't expect this turn of events.
Anyway, I reminded myself to ask her about it the next morning. At breakfast, curiosity finally just ate me up, and I asked her, "Hey, mom. You got a new boyfriend, huh? What happened to Kevin?" She said that Kevin was fine, he just works a lot, and they can't see each other that much, and she wanted more attention on her, so she met Rob. It just shocked me so much that I said, "But you can't do that! This is wrong! You're a decent woman!" This reaction seemed to have made my mom very angry. She said it was her own personal business, and that I shouldn't get involved. Besides, isn't that what I wanted? To tell you the truth, I just wanted my mom to not be alone, I didn't want her dating two guys at the same time. But there was nothing I could do, so now it was up to her.
And this became her everyday life. She was flirting on the phone with Kevin, and then she'd go on a date with Rob. And the next day she did the same thing, just the opposite. It was hard for me to accept what was going on. It's not what my mom taught me. But she did seem happy, so I had to put up with it…
