The White House issued a peremptory statement on Saturday criticizing the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC)'s demand that foreign airlines remove references on their websites or in other material suggesting Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao as "countries." (向下滑动查看中文内容)

Is it merely "Chinese political correctness" that major airlines not list Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and Tibet as "countries?" It's political correctness for nearly the whole world and international organizations including the UN. 大型航空公司不应将台港澳甚至西藏列到“国家”的栏目下，这仅仅是“中国的政治正确”吗？这是睁着眼睛说瞎话，因为它几乎是全世界、包括联合国等国际组织在内的政治正确。绝大多数国家的政府都承认台港澳和西藏是中国的一部分，大型航空公司应当对这一事实予以尊重，而不是反其道而行之。

Some Western companies have been listing Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and even Tibet as "countries" for a long time, but wrong practices need to be corrected sooner or later. China has justified rights in promoting such a change. This has nothing to do with political system or ideology. 我们知道，将台港澳甚至西藏与国家相提并论，一些西方公司这样做由来已久，但是错误的做法早晚要改过来，中国推动这种改变，有十分正当的权利。这与政治体制和意识形态没有关系，实行任何政治制度的国家处理同样的问题，都会这么做。

George Orwell satirized the Soviet Union's political system in Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four. The White House used Orwell's metaphor to attack China. This shows some American elites obstinately regard China as a totalitarian state, brushing aside the variety of Chinese society, which has been implementing a socialist market economy for decades. This round of requests for Western enterprises to rectify their wrongdoings started with the Chinese public. 台港澳以及西藏的名称问题，最严重的是涉及台湾的部分。因为只有“台独”构成了系统性威胁，而跨国公司在一些场合把台湾等同于“国家”会帮着维持“台独”的幻觉，也会模糊外部社会一些人对台湾地位的认识。

In most cases, non-governmental forces should play a major role in urging foreign enterprises to correct their language, with the government offering necessary support. 推动跨国公司以中方接受的方式称呼台港澳，作为策略，多数情况下可以民间力量的努力为主。官方可适当策应。因为民间怎么要求都不过分，而且民间意见代表了中国市场的消费倾向，有着特殊震慑力。 

Chinese should be psychologically prepared for a long-term struggle on the Taiwan question and understand that not all of our requests can be smoothly realized. The more formally we raise a demand, the higher the risk it may be resisted. 中国人要有这样的心理准备：在台湾问题上我们面临着长期斗争，而且不是我们的每一个要求都能顺利实现。在我们主动出击的时候，需要有两点考虑，一是要求的方式越正式，越要评估它遭到抵制的风险有多高。二是我们不能追求“每战必赢”，在打击“台独”的问题上，我们要逼台湾当局，而不能逼自己。 

The one-China policy is a reality of international politics. Any attempt by any government to encourage Taiwan independence will offend Chinese society and any company that disrespects the issue will have to pay a price. We hope all sides can understand this before making decisions. (向下滑动查看中文内容)

最后我们想说，一个中国是国际政治中的现实，也是全体中国人民神圣不可侵犯的要求与坚持。任何政府以任何方式操弄、鼓励“一中一台”，得罪的都是全中国社会;任何公司在这个问题上不尊重中国人民的感情，都将付出代价。希望各方在做出选择的时候，对这个道理的了解是充分的。
