Chinese Swimmer Tests Positive For Doping
Uh-oh! One of the competitors in this year's Olympics has failed a drugs test. Surprisingly it's not a Russian, it's a swimmer from China called Chen Xinyi
Chen Xinyi tested for hydrochlorothiazide, a diaretic drug often used to mask the use of other performance-enhancing drugs.
Chen was tested before arriving in Rio, but was still allowed to compete in the finals of the women’s 100-meter butterfly, where she placed fourth.
Sources say that Chen found out about the test results two days ago and has since taken the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to overturn the result via providing a second sample for further testing. We wouldn't be surprised if the sample had been 'tinkered' with, although we're seriously hoping the tests come back negative. We wouldn't want the Chinese swimming team to get tainted just after this girl started to make it seem awesome.
Fellow swimmer Sun Yang has already been accused of being a 'drug cheat' by Australian medalist Mack Horton, prompting angry Chinese netizens to bombard the internet with posts demanding an apology from the Aussie.
