Chinese Diver Wins Medal, Gets Proposed to by Fellow Olympian
So far it's been a fairly rocky Olympics for Chinese water sports with one swimmertesting positive for doping, and another being accused of doping.
Fortunately, He Zi attracted some positive attention to the team by winning a silver medal in the finals of the 3-meter springboard diving on Sunday. And if that wasn't enough enough, her boyfriend and fellow diver Qin Kai proposed to her at the medal ceremony, in front of a stadium full of people. Yeah, that takes balls.
The two divers had been dating for six years already. Qin Kai recently came off winning a bronze medal in the synchronized springboard last week.
Strangely enough there's been a fair amount of criticism from netizens about the stunt, and even the BBC questioned whether He Zi truly wanted marriage. "What a way to pressure her, with the entire world watching her as she makes such a private and life-changing decision," one Weibo user commented. Another user from London dubbed it "a dick move, and definitely not romantic."
Honestly though when you're still dating after six years, surely marriage is going to come around eventually. And what better moment, right?
