Mid-Autumn Festival is just around the corner, and that can only mean one thing…it’s mooncake season!

This year the actual holiday falls on September 10th, so pretty much any time between now and then is totally acceptable for doling out these deliciously festive treats to your friends and colleagues.

Let's take a look at your mooncake gifting options for this year. Though you’ll find a diverse range of fillings and flavors here, any mooncake connoisseur knows it’s not always about the taste. When it comes to gifting mooncakes, there’s an art behind it all.

and witches

This is probably one of the coolest mooncake packages I've seen. Holiland partnered up with The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and came out with two options for Harry Potter themed mooncakes. Both are 6-piece sets, each shaped like something iconic from Harry Potter including a Chocolate Frog, Hedwig, a Golden Snitch, Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, Platform  9 3/4, and an iconic Harry Potter crest. The set for RMB 289 is shaped like a Hogwarts briefcase and comes with a Hogwarts pin. The RMB 589 set is amazing. It comes with two wand pens, a letter from Hogwarts, and, get this, the box is shaped like the Monster Book of Monsters!

This one is going to be hard to get your hands on. You can't just walk into a Holiland and purchase a set. The best way to get them is to preorder online. Scan the QR code above for the Taobao link.

This year The Opposite House has one of the most gorgeous collections of mooncakes. They worked with the House Collective hotels to create four unique boxes inspired by curio boxes, a Chinese artifact dating back more than a hundred years and nicknamed “the emperor’s toy chest.” These finely wrought treasure chests held a prized position in the imperial residence and were filled with precious antiques for the emperor’s delight. Likewise, the four unique mooncake gift boxes capture the spirit and personalities of each of the Houses. Each box is crafted with the utmost care and full of surprises to discover, just like each House.

This year, they have partnered with design firm EDITECTURE to create mooncake box sets with a mindset of sustainability.  Each box’s “jade” Ping An Kou amulet is made of recycled material created using glass bottles and uniforms from the Houses. It is a modern take on a traditional artifact that families used to pass peace and safety down generations, in the same circular way that’s central to sustainable development.

Each set is RMB 488 and includes 8 mini mooncakes. Click this link to order a set.

Made from 100% recycled materials, the East Hotel mooncake packaging is as eco-friendly as it gets. They only have one option available, a 4-piece set for RMB 238. You get one mooncake in each of the following flavors: milk chocolate, matcha chocolate, rose chocolate, and mango chocolate. This set from the East Hotel is far from your traditional mooncakes. They're more contemporary and definitely a good choice for your dessert lover friends. My personal favorite is their milk chocolate mooncake that has a thin piece of cookie at the bottom. Yum!

InterContinental Hotel in Sanlitun is all about being cool and stylish. They've got a 4-piece option available this year for RMB 238 per set. Each set includes four mooncakes of four different flavors: date and walnut, beef and black pepper, snow mountain longan, and osmanthus.
