As expected this year's Golden Week was a sight to behold with 710 million trips made around the country during the extended holiday week.

That's about a 10 percent increase in tourist numbers compared to last year and resulted in some 590 billion yuan in income, according to the National Tourism Administration.

Our fair city of Shanghai was swamped once again with tourist sites around the city receivinghundreds of thousands of visitors during the National Day holiday. 880,000 tourists visited Yuyuan Garden, 149,000 went to the Pearl Tower and Shanghai Wildlife Park saw 239,000 visitors. Meanwhile, the Bund is estimated to have welcomed 1.78 million travelers.

Further south, the tiny tourist island of Gulangyu, located just off the coast of Xiamen in Fujian province, received 340,000 visitors during the hellish annual holiday -- the island is only about 2 square kilometers in area.

But, of course, all that fun had to one day end. Over the weekend, hundreds of millions made their way back to work. In the 11 days following September 28th, China's transport ministry predicted there would be 130 million rail trips, a prediction that looks likely to have been realized with China's railway network seeing at least 10 million passengers each day, including more than 15 million last Sunday, a new record.

Meanwhile, others tried to go home by car.Meanwhile, others tried to go home by car.

Can't wait to do this all again next year!
