Man stabs 10-year-old boy to death for bullying his daughter
The biggest story on Chinese social media at the moment concerns a father who stabbed to death a 10-year-old boy for allegedly bullying his daughter at school.
On Friday morning, the 41-year-old man, surnamed Wang, entered a primary school in the Jiangxi city of Shangrao and attacked the 3rd-grader in class with a fruit knife. The boy, surnamed Liu, was rushed to the hospital afterward but died from his injuries.
Wang was arrested at the school. According to a police statement released the following day, he has confessed to the murder. The statement says that Wang’s attack was motivated by a dispute between his daughter and Liu but fails to provide additional information.
However, screencaps of conversations on a parent-teacher chat group on WeChat have since leaked online in which Wang accuses Liu of continuing to bully his daughter despite being asked to stop picking on her. Wang threatens that he will confront the boy himself.
The teacher then attempted to arrange a meeting on Friday between the parents of the two children to address the issue and have Liu apologize, however, Liu’s parents reportedly did not show up. Liu’s father has since explained that the teacher had told him that Wang was “unreasonable” and likely “prone to violence,” so he left directly after dropping his son off at school, believing that might turn dangerous. He has also claimed that he was never informed before about the bullying, which allegedly had been going on for more than one year, by either the teacher or the girl’s parents.
Meanwhile, the school’s principal has been suspended as an investigation is now underway.
