China’s biggest airlines seek compensation from Boeing
Three of China’s top airlines are now seeking compensation from Boeing over losses caused by the grounding of their 737 MAX aircraft.
China became the first country to suspend the use of the 737 MAX following an Ethiopian Airlines crash on March 10th which killed all 157 people on board including eight Chinese nationals. That crash followed shortly after another 737 MAX plane crash in October 2018 when a Lion Air flight with 189 passengers and crew plunged into the Java Sea.
China Eastern Airlines became the first to ask for reimbursement on Tuesday. The airline reportedly has 14 737 MAX aircraft in its fleet. China Southern and Air China then followed on Wednesday, they operate 24 and 15 of the planes, respectively.
It’s not clear how much the Chinese airlines are seeking from Boeing, however, it’s probably best to get those requests in early as more and more airlines from around the world, from Norwegian Air to Flydubai, are reported to be seeking compensation from the American planemaker.
