The switching dynamics in memristive devices resembles biological synapses, which makes them promising candidates for the development of artificial neural networks. However, many memristive devices show retention loss over time, especially the oxide device with switching behavior caused by oxygen migration. Yang et al. proposed a strategy to improve the retention performance of the memristive device based on the structure of Pt/SrTiO3/SrRuO3. The introduced Sr-O interface layer between SrTiO3 and SrRuO3 can greatly improve the retention time (over 104 s) of the device. By applying an electric excitation, the device can exhibit continuous linear conductance modulation behavior, which shows great potential for hardware neuromorphic computing applications (see the article on page 1140).
