[PHOTOS] Each Year a New Trip of a Lifetime

Yew Chung International School of Beijing Secondary students returned to classes this Monday, back in town after last week’s excursions as a part of the Experiencing China Programme. One of YCIS Beijing’s most important activities of the year, the Experiencing China Programme sends students on overnight trips throughout the country, with each year level visiting a different, carefully chosen city or region.

But there is much more to the trips than simply sightseeing. Activities are planned both to supplement students’ existing Chinese studies, but also to build teamwork and push students past their comfort zones – all in the effort to aid students in their social, emotional, and academic growth.

For an in-depth look at the programme, Secondary Chinese Coordinator Jessica Sun details why certain activities and locations were chosen, what benefits teachers hoped their students would gain, and even shares the story of a broken-down bus and an eight-hour hike to the top of Mount Tai!
