Building Confidence in our Chinese Language Speakers 建立学习中文的信心

This week, we talked to April Peng, our Primary Chinese Vice-Principal, who reiterates the importance of creating conducive learning environments that allow students to put into use their language skills and become more confident speakers, “language is not just for learning, but for usage, especially in real situations during our daily lives.”

本周,我们对中方小学副校长彭曼女士进行了采访,她重申了创造有利的学习环境的重要性,让学生能够运用他们的语言技能,变得更自信,“语言不仅仅是用来学习,而是使用,特别是在我们日常生活中的实际运用。”


YCIS Beijing creates an environment that allows students to put their language skills into use by creating daily, relatable scenarios around the school which are linked to academic content students have completed. April Peng gives an example of learning about “Going to the Doctor”: Students will be given a task to go to the School nurse and interview her about things like illnesses, taking someone’s temperature and other medical-related questions”.

北京耀中创造了一个环境,允许学生在校园内创造出日常的与他们学习内容相关的场景,并使用他们的语言技能。彭曼女士给出了一个学习“看病”的例子:“学生将有机会采访学校的护士,了解疾病,测量体温和其他医疗相关问题。”


Within the school confines we create ample opportunities for Chinese Language Learners to hone their language skills, but what they do when not on our premises is as crucial. For parents who would like their children to immerse themselves even further in the Chinese language beyond the school walls, April offers the following tips:

在学校范围内,我们为中文学习者提供了充分的机会来磨练他们的语言技能,但他们在校外所做的事情同样至关重要。对于希望自己的孩子在校外更进一步沉浸在中文中的家长,她提供了以下提示:


Encourage the use of resources available and create opportunities to learn or use the language. An example is using technology to create vlogs.

Because we live in an environment that allows us, encourage your child to talk to the locals! This might be the Ayi at home, the cashier or the security guard in your compound.

Opt for Chinese books when reading with your child. 

Do not force your children to learn Chinese, but encourage them.

•鼓励使用可用资源并创造学习或使用该语言的机会。一个例子是创建视频博客。

•因为我们生活在中文环境中,鼓励孩子与当地人交谈!可能是家中的阿姨、收银员或小区保安人员。

•与孩子一起阅读时选择中文书籍。

•不要强迫孩子学习中文,而是鼓励他们。
