来自广州的梦泡和盯鞋乐队 乔迁日 以及 波卡利甜 在可悲的假日中拯救了我们的编辑。如果你不讨厌混响的话，他们的声音是非常值得玩味的——让人沉醉的音墙，以及漂浮其上的似乎能在现实与虚幻中自由穿行的嗓音。

After a lackluster holiday - one maligned not by COVID restrictions in the strict sense, but worse, by a fear of arbitrary COVID restrictions. That’s the sad disappointing truth - giving in to the fear and the retardation of society. Add in some drastic weather shifts and the Golden Week holiday was looking mighty glum. Luckily, shoegaze and dream pop were here to save me in the form of Guangzhou’s Jo’s Moving Day and Pocari Sweet.

I’ve been following the two acts over the past few years via their releases amidst the resurgence of shoegaze and dream pop in the south (I’d even consider this the third wave of gazers here in China). Calling to mind the heyday of the 90s were bands weren’t afraid to lean their amps turned all-the-way up, there’s a palatable depth to the two bands - one that sweeps you into its current almost immediately - pulsating with woozy ethereal walls of sound and voices that seem to float in and out of the air. 

Shoegaze outfit Jo’s Moving Day, which features members of Cheesemind, Yellow Light Garage, yourboyfriendsucks!, and even the evening’s other act Pocari Sweet - were perhaps my favored act of the night - if only for how heavy their song could get. 

Of all the nights to forget my earplugs. But sometimes you need your senses to be assaulted - especially when beneath all the fuzz are some truly rapturous melodies.  

Meanwhile, dream pop magnets Pocari Sweet whilst not afraid to lean into the reverb - struck a sharper more bittersweet tone - capturing both the rumbling distortions as well as the sweeter slower daydream waltzes the genre resides in. 

I was shocked at how many of their songs still lingered in my brain considering it’d been a proper four years since fully engaging with their music. 

So once again, thanks SJ Records for just about salvaging a shitty week-long holiday - and thank you shoegaze and dream pop for offering some release.
