Pu Letter is No Needed for Foreigners Working in China

Starting from June 6, 2022, many companies have received SMS and email notifications from their respective regional foreign affairs departments. From now on, the following people do not need to apply for an invitation letter (PU Letter) to China, and can directly apply for a Chinese visa to the Chinese visa agency abroad with the work permit/work permit notice, or proof of family relationship and other documents.

2022年6月6号开始，多家企业陆续收到所属区域外事主管部门的短信以及邮件通知。即日起，以下人员无需申请来华邀请函（PU Letter），可直接凭工作许可证/工作许可通知，或亲属关系证明等材料向中国驻外签证机构申请中国签证。

1. Foreigners coming to China for employment with the approval of China's competent authorities

经我国主管部门批准来华就业外国人；

2. Foreign family members of those who have resumed work (including foreigners working in China)

复工复产人员（包括在华工作外国人）的外籍家庭成员。

Q1, Has the whole country cancelled the PU letter? In addition to Shanghai, do other cities have relevant instructions?

Family members of foreigners working in China: spouses, spouses' parents, children, children's spouses, brothers and sisters, (external) grandparents, and (external) grandchildren can directly apply to the consulate for S-type visa with valid kinship certificates, such as marriage certificate and birth certificate, without submitting PU letter (except other additional documents supplemented by the Embassy /Consulate).

If you come to China for other reasons, such as business and exchange visit, you still need to submit PU letter to support the visa application.

At present, we know that the Chinese Embassy in Japan and North Korea has made it clear that those who meet the above conditions do not need to provide PU letter.
