The Smith Family's Christmas

It is a week before Christmas in the UK.

The Smith family go shopping.

They buy a big, fat turkey, Christmas cards and presents for everyone in the family.

The next day, Mr Smith and Sam, his son, go to buy a Christmas tree.

一、教学目标

1. 能够在教师的引导下, 借助图片和其他阅读策略读懂本单元的故事, 回答 B,

C 两项的问题。

2. 能够通过阅读 Smith 一家人的圣诞节活动,了解更多有关西方节日的庆祝方

式和习俗。

二、教学建议

读前活动

1. 教师播放音乐,请学生齐唱圣诞歌曲:We Wish You A Merry Christmas!

2. 教师问学生:What do you know about Christmas?

3. 学生四人一组,展开讨论并回答。

4. 教师向学生介绍:Christmas is the birthday of Jesus. During the Christmas, there are three important days, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

读中活动

1. 教师请学生打开课本快速阅读一遍故事,初步感知文本主要内容。

2. 教师说:This is a long passage, but we can divide it into four parts. The 1st part is about a week before Christmas. How about the 2nd, 3rd and 4th part? 学生回答:Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, the day after Christmas 。教师带领学生在故事中标注出四个部分 (the 1st part: 图一? 图三;the 2nd part: 图四? 图五;the 3rd part: 图六? 图七;the 4th part: 图八)

3. 教师分配小组任务。学生四人一组,组内每人负责在一个时间段的圣诞活动

下画线并承担相应的介绍任务 (三? 五句),同时组内成员互助学习生词, 如:decorate,wrap, stocking, at the bottom of等。

4. 学生以小组为单位, 向组员汇报 Smith 一家人在圣诞季四个不同时段的活动,

如:S1: It ’s a week before Christmas. The Smith Family ... S2: It’s Christmas Eve. First,they ... S3: It ’s Christmas Day. The family ... S4: It ’s the day after Christmas. The Smith family ...

5. 学生听录音默读故事,进一步理解故事内容。此时教师可带领学生进一步复

习生词,如:decorate, wrap, stocking,at the bottom of等(通过图片、英英互译或举例说明的方式理解生词 )。

6. 学生在小组内朗读故事,或者全班学生接龙读故事 (一人读一段,前一名学生

读完后选择后一名学生继续朗读 )。

读后活动

1. 教师请学生看 B 项的几个问题,并尝试回答。教师及时订正。

2. 教师说:Christmas is the most important holiday in western countries. What holiday is the most important in China? How do Chinese people celebrate Spring Festival? Let ’s think and talk. (C 项)

3. 教师向学生提出三个问题:What do people do before/on/after Spring Festival?

请学生自主选择并回答。
