One day, a friend 

gave Cao Cao an elephant.

一天，一个朋友给了曹操一头大象。

Cao Cao wanted to weigh it 

but he didn't know how.

曹操想称一称它有多重，

但是他不知道怎么称。

How much does it weigh?

它有多重？

His officers didn't know

how to weigh it either.

他的门客也不知道怎么称。

I think 

it is heavier than four cows.

我认为它比四头牛重。

No, 

it is heavier than ten cows.

不，它比十头牛重。

Cao Chong,

Cao Cao's son, had an idea.

曹操的儿子曹冲想到了一个主意。

He put the elephant into a boat.

它把大象引到了船上。

He made a mark of the water

on the boat with a knife.

他用刀在船上刻了个记号。

Then he put stones into the boat.

接着他把石头放到船上。

He stopped

when the water got to the mark.

当水到达记号时，停止放石头。

At last, 

he weighed all the stones

最后，他称了一下所有的石头，

and got the weight 

of the elephant.

就得出了大象的重量。
