Rainbows 

are made of sunlight and water.

彩虹是由阳光和水结合合成的。

Before and after it rains,

在下雨前后，

there is a lot of water in the air.

空气中有许多的水分。

When sunlight 

touches the drop of water,

当太阳光遇到水滴时，

the light scatters and 

光线散射，

we see all the colours 

of the rainbow.

我们就能看见彩虹的所有颜色。

Light from the sun 

来自太阳的光线

colours our world.

让我们的世界色彩丰富。

Light can bounce, scatter, 

or be absorbed.

光线可以反射、散开或被吸收。

Light is made up from 

the colours of the rainbow.

光由彩虹的色彩组成。

We see sunlight as white,

我们看见光是白色的，

so when light bounces,

所以当光反射时，

it comes back to us 

the same colour—white.

它返回相同的颜色——白色。

When light is absorbed,

当光被吸收时，

it goes away and 

它消失了，

we see darkness.

我们只能看见黑暗。

We see many different colours 

when light is scattered.

当光散开时，我们看见许多不同的颜色。

The colours of sunlight are:

阳光的颜色有：

red, orange, yellow, green,

红、橙、黄、绿、

blue, indigo, and violet.

蓝、靛、紫。

We can make a rainbow

with water and sunlight.

我们可以用水和阳光制造一道彩虹。

Water glass method

水杯法

1. 

Place a glass of water on a table 

in front of a sunny window.

将一杯水放在能照射到阳光的窗边桌上。

2. 

Put a piece of white paper 

将一张白纸

on the floor below the glass.

放到地面上，玻璃杯下面。

3. 

Move the glass or the paper 

移动玻璃杯或纸张，

until you can see the rainbow 

on the paper.

直到你能在纸上看见彩虹。

Mirror method

镜子法

1. 

Place a mirror 

inside a full glass of water.

将一面镜子放入一满杯水中。

2. 

Make sure the room is dark, 

and has white walls.

确保房间黑暗，以及有一面白墙。

3. 

Shine a flashlight into the glass, 

将一束光照进杯中，

moving the light around 

移动光线，

until a rainbow can be seen.

直到彩虹能被看到。

CD method

CD法

1. 

Take a CD. Clean it.

拿一张CD。擦干净。

2. 

Place the CD on table, 

under the sunlight.

将CD放在桌上，置于阳光下。

3. 

Look at the CD, 

and you will see the rainbow.

看着CD，你将会看见彩虹。
