The Department of Sociology offers Ph.D programme in the area of criminology and sociology. We have a group of internationally renowned scholars, attractive scholarship and beautiful campus waiting for your application. The Asian Journal of Criminology (SSCI) and the headquarters of the Asian Criminological Society are anchored here in our department. The Asian Association for Substance Abuse Research and the Chinese Society for Research in Child Development are headquartered here as well.

入學規則

Admission Regulations

General Entry (for Master’s Degree Holders)

Possess a Master’s degree or academic background recognized as equivalent by the University of Macau.

Accelerated Entry (for UM Master Students)

Have been registered in a Master’s Programme at the University of Macau for at least one year. Have successfully finished the coursework part with outstanding performance and have demonstrated strong research ability.

Direct Entry (for Bachelor’s Degree Holders)

Possess a Bachelor’s degree with outstanding performance and have demonstrated strong research ability.

Proof of English Proficiency

Applicants who received their Bachelor’s / Master’s degree from a university where the medium of instruction was not English are required to provide any of the following as proof of English proficiency:

- Obtained a TOEFL* score of 550 (paper-based examination) / 80 (Internet-based examination) or above or,

- An IELTS* overall score of 6.0 or above with no sub-score lower than 5.5 or,

- College English Test (CET) score is acceptable to some academic units, please visit corresponding website of each academic unit for details.

*Note: TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for two years from the test date.

獎學金

Scholarship

UM Macao PhD Scholarship 

(1 million MOP for four years)

Admitted students who have been selected to receive the UM Macao PhD Scholarship will receive a monthly stipend of MOP20,000 and a conference or research-related travel allowance up to MOP10,000 per academic year for a period up to 4 years.

UM PhD Assistantship 

(MOP 600,000 for four years)

Admitted students who have been selected to receive the UM PhD Assistantship will receive a starting monthly stipend of MOP12,500 (up to MOP14,000) for four years.

Tuition and/or any other kinds of fees that may incur during the course of studies will not be covered by the Assistantship. These scholarships/assistantships enable students to collaboratively work with faculty to produce co-authored papers that appear in leading international journals.

Many of our PhD students have published SSCI journal articles including publications in top journals such as the British Journal of Criminology, Journal of Quantitative Criminology, China Quarterly and Sociological Methods and Research. Our PhD graduates find good jobs in China’s universities and colleges.
