Org. Setting and Reporting
The internship is in the Web Services Section of the News and Media Division of the Department of Public Information. The section is responsible for the design, development, maintenance and overall support of the UN's flagship public Internet website, www.un.org and many related sub sites that are managed by DPI.
The internship is for two (2) months with an opportunity for extension up to six months, depending on the needs of the division and availability of the candidate.
The internship is unpaid and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
Within limits of delegated authority, the intern will be responsible for one or more of the following duties:
• Conduct research on the web on thematic issues, adapt content for the web by rewriting or translating content from English to another UN official language.
• Assist in the updating of web sites in HTML, SHTML, CSS or on WordPress and/or Drupal.
• Drafting, formatting, editing and posting original web site content/news stories, including graphics, photos and videos.
• Edit (provide subtitles or audio) to existing videos or producing short videos from existing videos.
• Use multimedia communications and IT/web-related tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, web development programming and scripting languages, such as PHP, HTML5, CSS3, and digital editing tools to perform tasks.

Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: 1. Applicants must: (a) be enrolled in a communications, information science, computer science, information systems, media studies, journalism, or related field graduate programme; or (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a communications, information science, computer science, information systems, media studies, journalism, or related field bachelor's degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree in communications, information science, computer science, information systems, media studies, journalism, or related field (as defined in (a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation. 2. Be computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages
English or French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the internship advertised, fluency in English as well as in one other official language of the United Nations (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is desirable.

Org. Setting and Reporting
The mandate of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is to promote regional cooperation for inclusive economic and social development in the Asian and Pacific region. ESCAP's role as a regional development arm of the United Nations Secretariat is to support its membership, through its analytical, normative and technical cooperation, to respond to the development priorities and changing needs of the Asian and Pacific region.
The United Nations Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (CSAM) is a regional institute under ESCAP. The objectives of the Centre are to enhance technical cooperation among the members and associate members of ESCAP as well as other interested States Members of the United Nations, through extensive exchange of information and sharing of social-economically and environmentally viable machinery and technology, and to promote research and development and extension of agricultural engineering, including machinery and rural industry for agricultural productivity gains and poverty reduction in the region.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time (five days per week for 35 hours), for a minimum duration of two (2) months and can be extended up to six (6) months. Interns will work under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Providing support to ongoing projects;
• Administrative support;
• Document, legal and internet research;
• Consolidating and sorting data;
• Working on presentations
Competencies
The United Nations Core Competencies include:

The Embassy of Ireland to China in Beijing is seeking to recruit a qualified and highly motivated candidate for the position of Political Assistant. The successful candidate will join a small, busy team with a heavy workload but will work in a rewarding position and will be given the opportunity to assist on project work and work directly with senior Irish diplomatson China’s foreign and domestic policy.
The selected candidate will report to the Ambassador and Deputy Ambassador through the Head of the Political Section. She/he will work closely with the Head of the Political Section to assist with research on China’s foreign and domestic policy, translate Chinese sources, assist with political level visits between Ireland and China as well as provide administrative support to the Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Political Section.
The successful candidate will have a fluent command of the Mandarin Chinese language and English, both spoken and written. He/she would have a proven strong academic background in the areas of law, public affairs, public administration, international relations or politics. An excellent knowledge of the Chinese political system would be a distinct advantage.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
1
Targeted monitoring and research on Chinese domestic and foreign policy;

Assist Irish diplomats to organise and prepare for meetings with Chinese officials and other public bodies;
3
Assist with the organisation of political level visits between Ireland and China;
4
Assist with the organisation of Embassy events;
5
Translate documents from English to Chinese and Chinese to English as required
from time to time;

Provide administrative assistance to the Deputy Head of Mission and Head of the
Political Section.
REQUIREMENTS
1
Able to work in both Mandarin Chinese and English, spoken and written. Language skills will be tested as part of the selection process;

A third-level qualification to at least Masters Level in the area of law, public affairs, public administration, politics or international relations;
3
At least three years’ experience working with an International Organisation or Embassy or in the area of public affairs;
4
Flexibility to adapt to a heavy workload and the ability to manage multiple tasks and ongoing projects at the same time;
5
Experience working with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel are required;

Strong organisational skills.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS
