-How to Use Good Bacteria in Our Daily Life-


Our first EM workshop series will be focusing on the uses of Effective Microorganisms (EM) for household purposes. This series focuses on creating a clean and safe home environment using all natural materials, based on the science behind nature and cleaning. These workshops are half lecture and half interactive, giving everyone the opportunity to create their own DIY homeware products.


This series of workshops is to encourage more self-sustained and eco-friendly practices that we can apply to our daily lives. We are preparing to start another series of workshops introducing its applications in organic agriculture in the near future.


The series consists of three workshops where we will work with a local expert in understanding EM. Each session will end on creating our EM based products and understanding their applications.



EM菌手工制作活动

 -如果在日常生活中使用有益菌-


我们首个EM菌工作坊系列活动将专注于讨论EM菌在日常生活上的应用。本次活动依据天然与清洁的科学原理,注重于使用纯天然材料打造一个干净安全的生活环境。本次活动一半是内容分享,一半是实际动手制作。我们每位参与者都能亲手体验自己制作环保家用产品的过程。


我们活动旨于鼓励大家在日常生活中尽量做到自给自足和环保。我们希望在不久的将来可以开展另一系列活动,介绍它在有机农业上的应用。


该系列由三个工作坊组成。我们很荣幸邀请到了一位当地在EM菌产品制作很有经验的老师。每次活动参与者都能自己亲手制作用EM菌为原材料的各种生活用品。

What’s EM and its Uses?

Effective Microorganisms (EM) are a liquid mixed culture made up of lactic acid bacteria, phototrophic bacteria, yeast and other almost 80 types of bacteria which are beneficial to human, soil and plants. It was developed by Professor Teruo Higa in 1982. EM activates local and native microorganisms that live in soil and water and maximizes their natural power. EM products that are used in numerous fields including agriculture, animal husbandry, environmental purification and health care.


EM can be used to inhibit harmful bacteria, remove harmful chemicals on vegetables and fruits, reduce formaldehyde and can also be used as a deodorant in your house. EM can also improve skin condition and prevent skin diseases.

什么是EM菌以及它的用途是什么?

EM菌(Effective Microorganisms)是一种由乳酸菌、光合细菌、酵母和其他近80种对人类、土壤和植物有益的细菌组成的微生活菌制剂。它是由Teruo Higa教授在1982年开发的。EM菌激活生长在土壤和水里的本土微生物以最大限度地发挥其自然力量。EM微生物产品,应用于农业、畜牧业、环境净化和医疗保健等众多领域。


EM菌可以抑制有害细菌,去除蔬菜水果上的有害化学物质,减少甲醛,还可以在家里作为除臭剂使用。EM菌也可以改善皮肤状况,预防皮肤疾病。

The Presenter

Ms. Choi is a certified eco-researcher who comes from Seoul, Korea; she spent more than half of her life working overseas.  She has studied and worked in Korea, USA, China and UAE and traveled to more than 20 countries. She has also worked in different industries, including as a product manager in Amorepacific Cosmetic Company, the largest cosmetic company in Korea.


She is interested in environmentally friendly lifestyle, so she obtained the certificate of natural cosmetics and EM in Korea.  She makes her own skin care products and household items with natural ingredients.


On workshop 1, our instructor Ms. Choi will help us begin learning the basics of EM and its common uses in your home. From there, we will make EMAS (Effective Microorganisms Activated Solution) from EM stock solution to take home.


On workshop 2, Ms. Choi will shed light on the harmful effects of store-bought dish soap and laundry detergent. Using a new technique, we will make our own multi-purpose natural cleaner using our ready-made activated solution.


On workshop 3, Ms. Choi will talk about the ingredients and harmful effects of regular softener and conditioner. We will make two bottles of EM softener (or conditioner), which is used to remove the residues of detergent.


Date & Time

Workshop 1 - 2pm, Thursday, April 15th, 2021 and 7pm, Wednesday, April 21st, 2021, please confirm the date that suits you better when signing up for workshop 1. This workshop lasts for about 1.5 hours.


Workshop 2/3 – Date and time TBC.


Fee

Workshop 1, the workshop is free to attend but we do charge 10 RMB to cover the cost of the ingredients.


Workshop 2 and 3, 20 RMB per person, per workshop, the workshops are free to attend but we do charge 20 RMB to cover the cost of the ingredients.


What to Bring

Workshop 1- A plastic bottle larger than 1L , fresh rice water 1L(made within 24 hours and refrigerated), pen and paper.

分享嘉宾

小崔老师来自韩国首尔,  是一位资格认证的环保研究员。她除了在韩国首尔生活,其它将近一半的时间都是生活工作在国外。现在是一个对天然健康产品很感兴趣的中国媳妇。小崔老师曾经在韩国、美国、中国和阿联酋学习和工作过,也在20多个国家旅游。她曾从事于不同行业,在韩国最大的化妆品公司爱茉莉(雪花秀、赫拉、兰芝、悦诗风吟等的母公司)做过产品经理。


对天然护肤品、生活用品、有机食品感兴趣并开始深入学习和研究,在韩国获得了天然化妆品和EM资格证。她希望把健康环保的生活方式分享给大家。


工作坊1,小崔老师会带领我们学习EM菌的基本知识,以及它在家中的常见用途。我们会用采购自她的家乡-韩国的EM母液来制作EM菌发酵液/微生活菌制剂(EMAS)。


工作坊2,小崔老师会详细解释从商店购买的普通洗洁精和洗衣液的有害影响。我们会使用我们上期制作的EM发酵液来DIY我们自己的多功能天然清洁剂。


工作坊3,小崔老师会讲解常规柔顺剂和护发素的成分和有害影响。我们会DIY两瓶EM菌柔顺剂(或者护发素),用于去除洗涤剂残留。


日期和时间

工作坊1 - 2021年4月15日周四下午两点,以及2021年4月21日周三下午7点,在你注册工作坊1的时候请确认其中一个合适你的时间。本次工作坊持续大约1.5小时。


工作坊2/3 - 日期和时间待定


费用

工作坊1,工作坊活动是免费参加的,但我们收取十元以支付原材料的成本,工作坊2和3也是免费参加的,各收取20元,用于支付原材料的成本。


需要带什么呢?

工作坊 1 - 一个大于一升容积的塑料瓶,新鲜洗米水一升(最好是24小时以内,且在冰箱冷藏的),纸和笔。


工作坊 2/3 - 待定

The Location (Salvador Loft)

We would like to give a large thanks to Colin and Kris for providing a free space for our workshop series. Salvador Loft is one of the most vegan-friendly restaurants in town that offer meat substitute for a great variety of options on the menu.  


Kris and Colin Started Salvador’s Coffee House in Dali, Yunnan in 2003. Their Kunming branch opened on Wenhua Xiang a year later. They have built their menu around fresh and healthy ingredients, and in 2016 they opened Salvador’s Loft as a new restaurant to take the healthy concept one step further. There they ferment their own tempeh and sauerkraut, they grow their own alfalfa sprouts and use locally-grown quinoa with a range of macro-bowl options, and they are always on the look-out for new and interesting locally-sourced ingredients.


活动场地(萨尔瓦多阁楼)

非常感谢克里斯和科林为我们免费提供活动场地。萨尔瓦多阁楼是在昆明非常受欢迎的素食友好餐厅。它们菜单上种类丰富的菜品都能做素食版本。


2003年,克里斯和科林在云南大理创立了萨尔瓦多咖啡馆。随后一年,他们的昆明分店在文化巷开业了。他们以新鲜、健康的食材打造他们的菜单,并且在2016年,他们开了一家新的餐厅叫做萨尔瓦多阁楼,将健康的理念进一步发扬。他们在那里自己发酵天贝和酸菜,他们自己种植苜蓿芽,使用当地生长的藜麦并提供一系列可选择的碗装料理, 与此同时,他们总是在寻找新奇有趣的本土地道食材。
