Meet Mr. Li HaiTao and his farm today! Goma Greens have been working with him and his farm for some time now. He is the director of Shanghai “Si Ye Cao Tang”which focus on natural education and practice, the certificated teacher of permaculture design and also the founder of YunGu Farm. Originally a golf athlete, he has been devoting himself to the permaculture, natural farming and the practice and promotion of these concepts with his passion about sustainable development. He has not only established a permaculture farm in Shanghai, but also been trying to help communities and schools to build their own sustainable gardens.  

今天，想带大家来认识一下与果玛合作有一段时间的黎海涛先生和他的农场。他是上海四叶草堂理事、朴门永续设计专业认证教师以及云谷农场的创始人。原先是高尔夫运动员的他凭着对可持续发展的热爱长期致力于朴门永续、自然农法和云思维理念的实践与推广，不但自己经营了朴门永续农场还帮助其他地区社区农场和学校建立永续菜园。

Why do you want to establish YunGu Farm?

为什么创立云谷呢？

Because I hope more farms could use less chemical fertilizers, pesticides and weedicide, through which, more safe and healthy food would be produced to fuel our body and mind.

因为想让更多社区农场不使用农药、化肥和除草剂，生产出让人吃得健康和安心充满能量的食物。

What makes you start to think about it？

是什么契机让你产生这个想法呢？

The current food safety problem is becoming increasingly severe and farmers have to use chemical fertilizers and pesticides to make sure they could gain more production to get earnings from. Because once it is not used, the ouput would decline in the first few years and the farmers can not afford the loss. YunGu environmental studio, as a platform, wants to connect the city and the countryside so that urban citizens could support farmers using natural and new eco-friendly ways to produce food through their consumption, which can protect our living environment in a better way.

目前现状就是食品安全问题日益加剧，而农户为了每年的收入不得不用化肥农药来种植。因为一旦不用，在最初的几年产量下降，这种损失是农户所承担不起的，云谷环境工作室连接城市与农村，使城市人通过消费支持新的农户按照自然方式来生产出安全食品。更保护我们人类赖以生存环境。

Before stepping into Li HaiTao's farm and undersatnd what he is trying to do, we would like to introduce something about permaculture and food forest.

在走入黎海涛先生的农场并了解他的工作之前，我们想为大家简单介绍一下朴门永续和食物森林。

Permaculture 朴门永续

Permaculture is the development of agricultural ecosystems intended to sustainable and self-sufficient, which has many branches that include ecological design, ecological engineering, construction, sustainable architecture and such.

朴门永续是指农业生态系统向可持续和自给自足的方向发展，它具有生态设计、生态工程、建筑、可持续建筑等多个分支。

Food Forest 食物森林

Food Forest is a design concept often used in permaculture, which is a forest with all edible natural-growing plants. 

食物森林是一个经常被用于朴门永续的设计理念。食物森林中都是自然生长的可食植物。

What do Li HaiTao do?

那么黎海涛先生是怎么做的呢？

Li HaiTao has applied the model of food forests to his farms to create an edible and diverse ecosystems. If you get the chance to visit his farm, you’ll be amazed at how more than one hundred species of plants are found in a small area. No one uses fertilizers, pesticides or weedicide, everything here is grown naturally. The more species, the more mature and stable the ecosystem would be with their supporting each other, and the more sustainable this farm would be. When we visited the farm, we also found Mantis eggs on the tree, which proves this is a trustworthy ecological farm.

黎海涛将食物森林的模式应用于自己的农场，建立可以吃的多样化生态系统。如果你去参观他的农场，你会惊讶于在一小块面积里竟然能有一百多种植物，没有人施肥、杀虫或除草，所有的食物都是自然方式生长的。物种越多，他们的互相促进能使这个生态系统越成熟稳定，越能达到永续的目的。我们在参观农场时，还发现了树上的螳螂卵块，更证明了这是值得信赖的生态农场

Food forests are no less productive. It is true that there are more species、sophisticated planting techniques and only seasonal vegetables and fruits in the food forest, which makes it not easy to get production soon. But over time, the food production system will produce more and more food, become self-sufficient and environmentally friendly.

食物森林的产能也一点都不逊色，食物森林里有各种植物，按照四季长出不同食物，虽不像种植短期作物那么容易形成，但是随着时间，这个食物生产的系统会生产愈来愈多的食物，而且自给自足，有益环境。
